Anyone else like pre-crisis Catwoman, the way she was before Year One and Batman Returns?
In the older comics and the Adam West show, she was a more traditional supervillain. She had a revolving cast of henchmen who’d do her bidding. She had big rich hideouts that usually had an Egyptian/Sphinx motif, exotic big cats like lions and tigers, and her general MO was stealing expensive decorative jeweled cat sculptures
I’d like it to return. Year One is cool but I wish she wasn’t permanently stuck as an impoverished former-prostitute anti-hero in a latex catsuit

I agree it's a loss, but they were already moving her into what became her modern characterization in the early 80s in her backup series in Detective. It got undone by The Joker brainwashing her back to evil.

Catwoman's prime was after Batman Returns; the Balent era, where she all but kickstarted the Bad Girl era of comics.She was a criminal with a heart of gold and all, but still a villain, pulling off heists and adventures.
Ed Brubaker and Darwyn Cooke hated it, though. So much so they dump the purple costume in the trash when they started their run. They hated the boobsock costume and gave her a more modest one. They made her an anti-hero.
The funny thing is, the Cooke costume didn't really take off until they had Adam Hughes covers with the boobs spilling out the unzipped top. That's the look that got adapted into the games
And that's the problem now; Catwoman at one point was her own character, now her entire life is in relation to Batman. Old writers understood BatCat was only feasible by retiring Catwoman. The moment she's an antihero, or can reasonably have a relationship with Batman. She's not fun anymore.

It's worth noting in her very earliest appearances when she was still just 'The Cat' Batman was already a damn fool simp who let her get off easy, and she also helped him against Joker after that, funnily enough trying to protect Robin from him

Nah, I liked her chaotic neutral solo thief persona she had in the Golden Age that has caught on. Her having the same mooks and gimmicks fetish as all the other 66' villains makes them blur together. I like it when the rouges gallery are a bit more distinct.

I dunno, to me there was always this thin hope that she could be redeemed, right? And then as the decades go on it turns out that yeah, she’s redeemed. So I’m not really on the “Catwoman should be a straight up villainess” train. Admittedly I skipped the King run so I don’t know exactly why people are so upset about her character now but I’m not really against her being good either.
