While I know the trolling doesn't absolve Chris of his actions, deep down, I can't help but wonder if he'd have sunk to the depths he did if it hadn't happened.

It's hard not to feel at least a little bad for him. Not to say that Chris should be free of any responsibility, but before people started messing with him he was just a random weirdo who could function semi-normally in life and mostly kept to himself all things considered. But then people realized how easy it was to actually control his life and manipulate him and from there it just became a game to see how far he could be pushed just so people could have their laughs. There were people who actually tried to get him to physically hurt himself and the only reason that didn't go through is because other people finally went "wait this is fucked up" and were able to talk him out of it.
Again, Chris shouldn't be excused from absolutely everything. But like someone else said it's really shitty that in the last year or so people have been trying to justify all the shit he was put through by saying he was a "bad person" even though at his worst before the internet discovered him he was just lazy and mildly racist and homophobic.

Chris had a website up and was posting Sonichu stuff way before the Internet discovered him. No one paid attention to him before then because it didn't stand out in the sea of other weird things on the internet. People didn't start giving him attention until other people started posting pictures of him online like he was some kind of rare wildlife and things spiraled from there. He had some public outbursts before but it wasn't like he was a raging lunatic (at the time) that got him noticed. One of the first people who posted about him online said that he was just a weird guy who paced around the mall but never really caused a scene.
