This is almost definitely the biggest thing that bogs down nu-SP. They're forced to shoehorn in the current thing and get it all done from start to finish in one week. But it's completely obsolete when every day some fags' überwit biting political commentary tweets goes viral across all major social media. Or when people are on their phones at all times engaging in the 24-hour news cycle. We live breathe eat and drink news now. News and commentary. Playing "middle ground mediator both sides dumb" is basically the modern equivalent of saying nothing.

In the end this is just the system and audience South Park built for itself and I don't see us ever going back. Maybe, if we got more episodes like the airsoft one from this season, it could be close. But so far I'm going to assume that one was a fluke.

They don't necessarily have to redeem him to make him more interesting, they can just delve more into his psychosis like Tsst and 1%.

I believe that stereotypes can have much more powerful personalities just like how Bubbles and Butters go from optimistic happy happy joy joy to literally hitting their head and believing they're Mojo Jojo, compared more varied characters like Stan, Kyle, The Professor who supposedly are more mature and have a lot more varied personality in them, but because they're so calm and overall passive they're incapable of showing off that personality which makes them more one-note than the actual stereotypes.
Then we have really stupid characters like Randy and Mimsy who take orders from others(in Randy's case he has less of an opinion than Mimsy while doing things) while characters like Garrison have too much of an opinion. I think you could replace Cartman with Garrison and only gain from it. Do I sound like a Garrisonfag?

I don't watch a whole lot of powerpuff girls so can't comment on Bubbles, but Butters is more than just a stereotype. In fact I didn't like Butters much when he was just a happy go lucky kid. I started liking him more when they showed another side to him in "Professor Chaos" where he wanted to be a bad guy (and gain more respect from his peers) but was too much of a sissy to do so, and when they started showing that underneath that optimistic exterior is a traumatized kid who's regularly abused by his parents.

So there, Butters actually has a more varied personality than Cartman, who like I said before, doesn't have any personality beyone "le big bad guy".

Well there are a few instances of Cartman having a conscious like in Tsst, but I feel like this side of him is underutilized. So I suppose you can argue that there is something else to him especially if you take into account what they did with him in season 25

Thanks, I figure it's just because there's nothing really humorous or entertaining about their dynamic. They don't bounce off each other in the same way that Style/Kyman/Creek do, even in their superhero/villain personas Mysterion was obviously holding back in their fight and willingly revealed his identity to keep the Coon from fucking with him any more, and Chaos openly admires Mysterion and wants to team up with him. There's just no potential for conflict between them, which is great for real life couples but boring for television.
