This is why creators should never pay attention to fandom.

Having the character that portrays a beautifully tragic and very relatable lesbian love story, one of the strongest stories in the show*, just end up in love with a man, let alone the man who cucked her would send a weird and hurtful message. "Now that you're done with your lesbian nonsense, find your final happiness in the arms of a man".
They have a strong friend and partnership now and that's perfectly beautiful, they don't need to be romantically or sexually attracted because frankly that would be odd to suddenly emerge after decades of knowing each other. "We feel the same pain and support each other" does not romance or attraction make. It something that deepens a bond, but romantic attraction is a separate thing with a life of it's own.
Pearl being a hearthrob and happily living the bachelorette life is also a great thing. What fine lady will win the Pearlbowl, most desirable single in Little Homeworld? Only one that deserves her and makes her happy, of course. And living life by making herself happy and not needing romantic attachment is also nice.
