I love how the guy being lifted in the back doesn't even look annoyed, he just looks impressed that the other dude can lift him so easily.

Seems to me it's literally one guy who gets triggered and any kind of Sword and Sorcery. Just ignore him instead of shitting up threads with your autistic back and forth shitposting.

Pic reminded me of the ending shot of Tarsem's Immortals.
Why the fuck do so many modern fantasy books feel like YA novels with a couple handfuls of middle school edgelord-tier things thrown in so they don't just get sold in the YA section?

Many, probably. There is christian fantasy, but there are also probably many less known indie works around. Many mil-sf writers are also conservative, but to find one where this message is more than a subtle sub-text you would need to find someone who's read a lot of them.

In Rogues in the House Conan throws a prostitute out of a window and into a cesspit.
Jaxson Kelly
Then fights a man-ape with kitchen cutlery. Which is the best part of the story
Levi Stewart
I think it's the only story where Conan straight up murders a guy. Not kill him in self-defense or because the guy previously wronged him (like the prostitute); just an innocent man who happened to bump into Conan at the wrong place and the wrong time.
Jace Phillips
Unless there is a rival prostitute to battle in the d Cesspit I'm not interested
Liam Edwards
Conan kills a guy in a barfight in Tower of the Elephant, and in another assassinates a ship's captain to steal his ship and crew. Unless he's in charge of protecting something he acts like a complete murder hobo.
The bar fight was exactly that; a bar fight. So not murder. Conan definitely wanted to kill that pirate captain to take over his ship and crew, but Conan at least DUELED him instead of outright murdering him. The guy he murdered in Rogues in the House was simply walking down the stairs after doing business with the prostitute Conan was after. He was completely innocent and Conan killed him purely out of anger. And then ironically enough Conan DOESN'T kill the prostitute who definitely deserves to die because Conan doesn't kill women.
David Scott
Nice try, neckbeard.
Liam Collins
>because Conan doesn't kill women. Cuck
Joseph Jones
Conan spends most of his time as a pirate or bandit. He will have killed lots of people just to steak their shit.

Joshua Clark
>because Conan doesn't kill women Ugh another rand. Does he bitch and whine about it too?
kinda off-topic but is there a good alternative to calibre? i use calibre on my server along with calibre-web so i can read my shit wherever i want to. i really havent bothered to fix the metadata and my ebook library is over 20k books right now with many duplicates or different formats. so i figured its time i started organizing it and get rid of all the duplicates. issue is calibre craps itself everytime i try to do anything other than just adding new books to the library. it just cant handle all them books.
>20k books Did you by any chance get that 600gb dump floating around? If yes can you link it, I've been meaning to dl it.
Aaron Myers
> 20k books wtf!?
plenty of tools out there that find duplicates.
Charles King
No ebook software is designed to handle that many books. Best thing to do in Calibre is to split that into separate libraries so it's more manageable.
Dylan Jackson
nah i accumolated it over time however i recently found a mega folder with pretty much anything people could want. which includes a lot of classics and shit. the western authors folder seems to have pretty much anything from PKD to Wagner. mega.nz/#F!51Q0waSI!4Ut-eePQr9YSjHJJTQs7Ew

My favorite story is when Conan white knights the grieving, enslaved woman, chases her down, then apologizes and vows that he doesn't rape women. Then for all his trouble he has to fight the Moon Presence from Bloodborne.
Jason Lewis
Is that Vale of Lost Women? If so then yea that's definitely one of REH's weaker Conans.
Liam Myers
If you've read and enjoyed Wagner's Kane (specifically the book Night Winds) then you owe it to yourself to watch this because it's probably going to be the closest thing we'll ever get to a Kane movie. Like most of the stories in Night Winds this film is a straight up horror story in a Sword & Sorcery setting.
While this is getting old, I AM glad that you've moved on from Sarah J Fatass.

Is 'Best Served Cold' a good book if I enjoyed normie fantasy like the First Law trilogy and the usual Lynch/Rothfuss/GRRM shit? It has a female protagonist so I just wanna know if it's full of poorly written badass grrl power shit or if it's actually good.

I don't hate him, but reading his books is very unsatisfying. He writes some good characters (mainly Glokta), but his stories don't really go anywhere and the details of the world he created are a complete mess that don't make sense. Maybe if you're the kind of reader who only cares about "cool" scenes and never sits back and tries to take in the bigger picture, you'll enjoy him. But from the perspective of somebody who reads a lot of epic fantasy Abercrombie is definitely a hack writer half-assing his way into the genre.

In terms of influence? He can't be. He's basically the patron god of fantasy now. No other author has been able to rise above the march of time to join him at the table and form a new pantheon of fantasy writer gods, Tolkien reigns alone. Despite being dead for decades new writers are forced to grapple with his legacy, with his name, which is known everywhere.
GRRM could have the potential to join Tolkien at the table, he's certainly famous enough, but the real issue is staying power. Can he sustain this level of fame and influence after the HBO series ends? If not he'll just be another popular author that failed to leave his mark and fade into history while Tolkien continues on into the future, alone and brilliant, forever.
David Adams
I like GRRM. Will I like Abercrombie?
Nathan Roberts

>GRRM could have the potential to join Tolkien at the table not happening, no one in the Tolkienverse is half as annoying or badly written as Daenerys 'I can do no wrong, I deserve it all' Targaryen. The only way he can redeem himself is by making her go crazy like her Targ forbearers and ruin everything, that would be kino.
Jayden Flores
>'I can do no wrong, I deserve it all' But she does a lot of things wrong, basically dragging a whole continent into war. Being entitled is part of her character, and the last chapter of ADWD suggests she may be going Targ mad.
Chase Allen
It's been half a decade since I read the books, maybe I mixed up too much of her show character with her book one. I really hope GRRM has the books ready to be published when the show ends. The crazy Targ angle and the Victarion/Euron chapters are all I care about.
Carson Richardson
Yeah I understand that, it's been years since I read them too and the show fucks up with my memory sometimes. I've been re-reading the books and they're a lot better than I remembered, with the exception of book 4. Give me a book that has "The Academy" and a smart protagonist studying there. Bonus points for contemporary or space opera shit. I just got this craving, don't judge me please.

You are right. Tolkien is shit. Consult Dunsany/Peake/Moorcock.
The first book was a fun read, the second one shit the bed with the naval gargabe, the third one had some decent moments with politics and all but then the protagonist's childhood friend comes back and she acts like some dominatrix, always teasing and cucking him and half the book is him pining for her. It was absolutely revolting
Dylan Lewis
>that part where Locke and Sabetha are dining at some floating restaurant and she literally rappels out of the place mid conversation I imagine Lynch wrote that scene with one hand while he fiddled his micropenis with the other.

If you want to make it interesting you can add a different concept altogether. Lose the "humans left this shitty rock" trope and replace it with a more action focused conflict. I'm very empathetic so I can relate to almost anyone. I don't need to be a cripple or an ugly incel to like Glokta's character. They really should have made a movie with John Malkovich hamming it up as Bayaz, it would be unadulterated fun.
he looks too small in that image. in the books its described that yaren barely comes up to his chest.
Ayden Foster
It doesn't look like he will be clapping the snake guy's sister anymore. yaren looks like her cunny bout to get stuffed.
Also. You think the turtle is gonna fuck Lindon's sister? Wtf happen that she got to steal food? Shits got preddy bad.
Angel Rogers
whats with your obsession with sex. based on will wights previous stories its probably gonna be some drama that is resolved quickly. either some chick takes interest in lindon or some guy takes interest in yaren and they gotta fight it out together and only do the nasty after the distractions are gone.

Definitely the seeker of truth, or anything by terry goodkind. Prepare yourself for an emotional tornado full of poignancy, pathos and sexual intimacy. The worldbuilding is phenomenal and far more in depth than anything else on this thread, it actually feels real. The characters are deeply fleshed out, but he warned, this is a VERY complex story so pay attention. If youre not exceptionally bright you will miss out on a lot. Goodkinds philosophies on everything from love to morality are so unapologetically real that many people might get turned off. Do not read the seeker if youre not ready, these books and characters will change your perspective on life. For the better? Maybe, maybe not.
Benjamin Torres

Because it’s a comfy coming of age story about two young autists. It’s not preachy nor does it have crazy evil dark lord or we live in a society rebellions.
Chase Cox
This is why I like Dawn of Wonder by Jonathan Renshaw. The coming of age part feels like it actually takes time.
Eventually. I think I checked his blog after I finished book 1 which was years ago, but apparently he was working on his masters. I just checked and still not even a tentative date. If the quality is as good or better than book 1 I won't complain though
Just finished reading pic related + The Island and Giants short stories. I'm a little underwhelmed, to be honest. It was a good concept but it could have benefitted from a full novel length. We barely get any glimpse about what's happening outside of the ship or what the things that come through the gates are. At one point, the ship is said to be off course not because of a navigation error but because the universe itself has shifted, but then its never mentioned again. In the second half of the novel, all sense scale is thrown out of the window and the events may as well take place over a few weeks. It just felt like a waste of a good concept. But at least the novel didn't suffer from the usual cringey, repetitive dialogue that plagues most of Watts' other novels. Anyway, 6/10. Would recommend.
How come none of these "grimdark fantasy" meme authors never include interspecies rape/breeding? Hell it doesn't even have to involve sexual intercourse, you could have women get captured and turned into a monster breeding abomination like the Broodmother like Dragon Age had back when it was actually a decent dark fantasy world before BioWare went full retard.
>written by a chink >mc is the weakest person in the series but simultaneously the strongest due to some exploitable ability >mc obsessed with revenge but never really properly gets it >CULTIVATION >every new "arc" has a new girl for the MC to swoon over and vice versa only to be forgotten as soon as said arc ends >the ending is unfulfilling garbage that makes the entire journey to get there feel utterly pointless That pretty much sums up chinkshit.

So I finally made it through the Sword of Truth series, ands wew lad does aside from his Ayn Rand fetish does Goodkind just throw his fetishes in there. Dude even has a NTR fetish but never goes all the way with the female lead.
One instance was when Kalan fucks the protagonist's half brother for the sake of some ritual and starts to enjoy it only for the protagonist to turn on the lights and reveal it was him all along and in another instance some crazy bitch casts a spell on her that gives them a physical bond and then asks some guy to rape her in front of the protagonist so that Kalan is pretty much getting pounded by an invisible cock.
Jackson Nelson
yeah, slurpuff, though that one's a shiny since the normal one is clearly strawberry flavored
It's actually ridiculously powerful because it can quadruple its attack and double its speed in a single turn thanks to its ability and moveset, but you never see it in competitions because it has trouble with steel types
do you think people would find the boy unlikable in this scenario?
>street urchin boy runs errands for a petshop and is in love with the owner's teenage daughter >unfortunately, teenage daughter is super racist and preaches about the yellow peril to the boy who believes every word >owner lets a lonely asian man to adopt a puppy, infuriating the daughter and causing street urchin to go off and kidnap an innocent man's puppy because he's afraid the man intends to eat it
I've read a few of his things, and I honestly have to say, he's not great.
The Last Days of New Paris was interesting, but in retrospect pretty unmemorable with a cast of characters who were so uninteresting I can't remember a thing about them besides the fact that one of them was a dude wearing a bulletproof dress
Un Lun Dun was way better, and I honestly felt disappointed Hemi didn't get the girl in the end, but after reading it for research purposes it made me realize that I didn't want my writing to be anything like it.

It's a shame Cradle will eventually become shit once Lindon ascends just like how Chinkshit usually becomes shit once the MC ascends to a higher realm. The fights become really bad at that point. We also already know the fights are going to become abstract. Abstract fights are usually terrible. The Suriel/Ozriel shit is one of the worst parts of Cradle. Oh well at least it'll be fun until Lindon ascends

Isaac Gutierrez
>Not after he spilled all his spaghetti in front of her in that medical tent. Wtf does that even mean?
Landon Brown
What are your thoughts on Discworld? I've read about 22-25 of them following the main storylines and quite enjoy them, but I'm a really easy to please guy so I'm worried I'm not looking at them critically enough. For example, with the exception of The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic (mostly due to them being very early works) I love Rincewind, but apparently he has the least enjoyable books to both Pratchett and readers held up only because Rincewind is the main character, and he's really fun.
Dylan Cook
>universe turning back into chaos >Some new type of monsters are born and they accelerate the process >The leaders of the universe are fighting among themselves This is so fucking boring
Cooper Barnes
If I wanted "edgy shlock" I'd just read Meme Lawrence's books. I want a well told story about a well-meaning protagonist who ends up becoming a villain. Despite how well known the trope is its surprisingly sparse in the genre and the greatest example I can think of isn't even a fantasy novel.
Honestly Lindon not knowing what his realization was makes no sense.
Charles Morgan
Is Foundryside any good?
Evan Williams
Does anyone read his other series besides cradle? I read the valinhall series and it was pretty decent. I think the ending was not very fullfilling. I haven't looked into that other dual series though

I think one of the best things about xianxia is that there's always a higher step, the mystique is never gone, cradle lacks that
Jaxon Hall

YA drivel with all the pandering. Protagonist doesn't take dick.

Is Cradle a good book though? I've seen people compare it to Anime, and we all know anime is shit.
Jace Roberts
Silmarillion- Feanor, Numenoreans, etc. Children of Hurin too I guess but he doesn't really become a villain but the universe does go out of its way to shit on him. I have a last recommendation and you may think I'm fucking with you but read Darth Plagueis, Labyrinth of Evil, Revenge of the Sith, and Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader. It may be Star Wars but James Luceno is a pretty good writer.
Jonathan Edwards
Traveller's Gate sucks. Not a single satisfying resolution
Dylan Diaz
I think he wrote in his blog he doesn't like writing romance because it's so easy to fuck up but he still puts in a bunch of hints so the reader is just left feeling blue balled
>I think one of the best things about xianxia is that there's always a higher step This is one of the worst things. I mean I get what you're saying but that's not how it usually works. It usually is the protagonist is one area and there's this highest realm in that area where only old men reach it and once the protagonist leaves the area and goes on the next one even servants are at that previously high level. In the case of ascension it usually involves the protagonist repeating his journey in the lower realm but this time with a higher power level
Asher Reed
Holy SHIT ekeri got cucked. How will she EVER recover?
Brayden Wright
I'm not talking about romance. The way everything ended was just terrible.
Wyatt Jenkins

John Murphy
He's writing a sequel trilogy but it won't be until after his whatever Empire series fucking bullshit

For example he can make a xianxia society without everyone being fucking megararted about face.

Man it feels like every ending I've read in the past few years have been utter garbage. I'm not asking for some fairy tale type ending where everyone lives happily ever after, but some actual fucking resolution would be nice instead of sequel baiting or bittersweet/tragic endings that exist for the sole purpose of being bittersweet/tragic.

It’s a fun series. Nothing revolutionary but it’s nice and the characters are enjoyable.
I'm not going to give you any reasons in fact I'm going to tell you to read it so you can give me a recommendation on it later.
Landon Baker
Because the author's last book had a lot of problems and ended like shit. So I'm waiting until he finishes this one to see if he learned form his mistakes before I commit to reading it.
Easton Lewis
>I'm waiting until he finishes He's going to write at least 15 books, he's on no. 6 now. Enjoy waiting.
Cameron Rogers
i like him. but i can see why people don't
Jordan Cruz
He's a pedophile.
Chase Howard
I trust amazon reviews over the tryhard pretentious lesbian faggots on goodreads. Make you're own decision. If you like power level advancement underdog type stuff then the series will probably interest you.
Easton Barnes
I like it, but I don't like the way anime does it. Because in Anime they're not really underdogs, they're the favorites like Naruto, or whatever.
Luke Thomas
>check out a book I'm interested in on goodreads >first review for it is some tumblr-looking cunt talking about how she killed a bug And that's why I no longer use goodreads reviews.
Justin Hernandez
Is it any good? The premise sounds like it could be really interesting or ungodly boring depending on how well it's written.
Anyone sincerely watching the girly shit is already gender confused.
Samuel Martinez
Yes, I want to be a girl.
Andrew Bell
With today's technology, you can.
Nathaniel Bell
What would you consider to be the good stuff, at least of what's translated?
Grayson Sanders
None and I've read quite a few of them. Reading them will turn your brain into mush and you'll turn into a literal reading zombie mindlessly consuming shit. It's wish fulfilment and power fantasy in it's crudest form and if you've read one you've pretty much read all of them. If you don't want to listen and want to see for yourself, try Desolate Era, it's passable. If you want a good translation that doesn't have broken English you can try Warlock of the Magus World.
Carter Howard
Whats some classic sci fi like logans run and make room make room that still holds up?
Jason Rodriguez
Please fellas, at least TRY to not shit this one up as well.
Parker Davis
You already have the book, user. Read it and see for yourself.
