The 120 Days of Sodom

Any one else read this book or any works by Marquis De Sade?

Sade was redpilled as fuck

I’m not sure how anybody is able to work through his novels, unless they are actually themselves able to draw some sort of sadistic fascination from the content. 120 days is too dense and repetitive, so I don’t know. The introduction of the main guys was pretty cool.
His short works are pretty good, I can’t remember off the top of my head but I have the collection called “the gothic tales of Marquis de Sade” and i’ve really enjoyed it
I’ll upload a pic later

I read the whole thing bc I like dark shit but it was so fucked up. Fun fact about the book is that only the first part is complete the last three parts are essentially just notes.

My old edgy self that thought old Yea Forums was cool was eager to read this.
Turns out I wasn't as edgy as I thought. The book is pure degenerated garbage.
It's just a neverending stream of sticking dicks into all kinds of holes and shitting and violence inflicted on children and adults.
The novelty wears off very quick.

Fag.

Yeah it’s basically a bunch of shock value

Read the Philosophy in the Boudoir for a class on decadence in uni, it was pretty revealing into the libertine mentality, as well as sexual deviancy and anti-religion. All in all, Sade is one goofy motherfucker who needed to be hugged by his mother more.

120 Days is definitely his more "ZOMG LOOK AT ALL THE GROSS SHIT I CAN WRITE HAHA ALL OF YOU ARE JUST GETTING TRIGGERED" book, rather than providing a philosophical ground to stand on in his other works.

disgusting thumb.

juliette is the superior work. it intersperses its sexual monstrosities with discourses on moral philosophy and freedom that turn right back into sexual monstrosities. i would say that the marquis is underrated as a political philosopher, but his ideas are legitimately dangerous and it's a good thing that few know about or discuss them

Thanks love

120 is is worst work and absolute trash.

read phil in the boudoir, justine or juliette, those are all great, although the latter two can get a bit repetitive. philbou is the best introducion, i think

disgusting tranny thumb, neck yourself

but i guess you'll do that in 10 years anyway, i can wait

What with that stubby thumb? It looks like they cut it's tip.
Anyway, Sade is fine when self contained to shorter stories, mostly because his political commentary is good, but simple, so the more it drags, the less interesting it becomes. The sexual degeneracy in them is not impressive by today's standards, but still vivid due to his detailed descriptions, so it acts as filter for those sensitive towards those themes.
Personally, the guy inspired me to not feel any shame about my body of work

This is true however it is clear world elite are his observers and their perspective can be approximated through his print.
Was he into Crowley sex Magick?

Not a tranny but aight

Idk why y’all so freaked out about my thumb but ok

So, cam-whore.

Cyclops thumb. Kill the unclean!

Next time smash your thumb with a hammer. Same gay effect, saves you the trouble of doing a shitty paint job.

I wish, Satan. I doodle, write and take pics, but am not hot enough for cam-whoring.
God that'd be so easy.
Is there anything inherently shameful about 'whoring' your image, or a created one, other than knowing you are aiming at basic instincts? It's no different from selling food or water.
Okay, it was the angle.

I read Justine.
Like others have said, it seems like he was just trying to write the most outrageous smut possible to piss off people.
Justine was ultimately very boring. It's rather shocking at first, but you get used to it very quickly because it becomes redundant. the story is actually very cyclical and it really became a drag to read on.
i can't imagine 120 Days to be any different. i also saw the movie and it's just edgy, gross shit. that being said, it still gave me a boner.

Couldn’t finish it, just kept jerking off everytime i tried to read it.

Philosophy in the Bedroom contains the most concise introduction to his philosophical and political ideas, along with the highly charged 'One more effort, Frenchmen...' pamphlet
Justine and Juliette are able to disperse these ideas in novel form.
His ideas on the nature of reality seem to be largely drawn from Lucretius and maybe Spinoza ('Matter in motion is the sole basis of everything') and his political thought ricochets from anarchy to aristocracy at lightning pace.
In many ways, he's a precursor to Stirner and Nietszche
His 'We have free will, but we know not from where our desires come.' argument reminds me somewhat of schopenhauer too.

Never read 120 days of sodom
I read somewhere he compiled it as a list of tortures, both to break whatever taboos he had left, and to prepare himself for the worst in prison.

i've read philosphy in the boudoir and it was pretty distusting.he was trying so hard to be the devil's advocate.i am pretty sure he didn't mean any of this and he just wrote it for shock value.i mean if everyone was a libertine Sade would be the first one to die in the world he advocates.

As far as the shock value goes, the shit that Japan exports on a daily basis makes him look tame in comparison.

I found this book super boring and easy to put down. “Juliette” is my favourite fap material tho, especially the sections written from a male perspective (I find Sade’s sadistic women incredible in the technical sense, and don’t want to read about “strong women” libertines). “Justine” is also fantastic.

Watched the movie, no longer have to read the book

>i mean if everyone was a libertine Sade would be the first one to die in the world he advocates.
how so? he was a battle hardened warrior.

You got me there

Interesting. Have you read Sade My Neighbor?

good post

philosophy in the bedroom is the place to start.

I read a chunk of it and got the gist. It's mostly outlines anyways. Really monotonous.
