Nas portrays the grimy urban environment so well. I know alot of rap is trash but some of it is high brow, alot of Nas’ storytelling tracks are genuine art.

but this is dumb, for the same reason - Africa has consistently produced more great writers over the past half century or so than any part of the white anglosphere outside of arguably the US and Carribean has (and even there e.g. Paul Beatty and Marlon James have written novels that'll be read widely decades from now). Personally my favourites are postcolonial reflections - Taleb Salih and Joseph Conrad or Kamel Daoud and Albert Camus, for example. I can't think of many contemporary or recent anglosphere authors that meet their standard (Ballard and Coetzee yes, but the majority of recent UK/SA literary fiction is dross from Shriver, McEwan, Amis, and their various knock-offs), and off the top of my head I can't think of a single Australian or Canadian author worth mentioning.

The thing about rap is it is intellectually void, it just sounds good. If this had any intellectual value blacks would have invented existentialism. Poetry is more than just sounds, and whites write better rap anyways

Dont really think that is true. I also dont know why do you only consider the "anglosphere" and not the rest of europe. I would also argue that many of those authors that were born in colonial africa (Like Camus) would be more considered european cannon given also their descent and european influences, imo. I never insisted that there were no good and great black writters and i would like to clarify that i was mentioning really "african black descent" authors and not really arabs and muslims as vague as this may sound.
But i hope you get the idea.

you've misunderstood my point - Conrad and Camus were European, and Saleh and Daoud wrote African novels in response to theirs.
But yeah honestly I misread your post and it's not actually dumb. I said the anglosphere specifically though because a French or Portuguese author from France or Portugal is always gonna get translated to English, whereas someone who writes a good novel in sub-Saharan Africa in French or Portuguese most likely won't. I don't speak either of those languages but I know of several novels written in them from sub-Saharan Africa that I've been waiting years for a translation of. Also like, where's the line between Muslim and African? Fair enough Daoud's Algerian, and I ought to've picked a better example, but part of why Saleh's so good is his existence at a point of cultural crossover between North African, Arab, East African, and European.
