No. Literature by its nature carries much more meaning than the natural language we use every day. A poem can be reread a hundred times and still have something to think about, and the same goes for Ulysses and other massive novels. The latter just express more "meaning" over a proportionally larger space.

A great book is as long as it has to be, whether that be 100 pages or 1000. I think Yea Forums likes long books because they contain more encompassing ideas, while short books tend to analyze a single idea

Under 5,000 words and yet feels like a longer book. It's so haunting it stays with you. I read it like 4 years ago and still think about it from time to time.

How do I write a big book? Every time I write I always think that it's going to longer than it actually becomes. I'll think it will be 3 pages of an idea but it just condenses down to 1 page of idea.

Big novels are not meant to be speedread.
They are meant to be read as a part of your daily or weekly routine to fill out some extra time. Just like a weekly anime.

Just read wikipedia summaries if all you wanted to know is the plot.

Since GR is relevant to this thread, let me ask here: What the fuck is up with all the broken German in gravity's rainbow? Literally, LITERALLY, more than 90% of the German he uses, only counting strings of two or more words of German, are wrong. It's reached a point where it's impressive how he manages to fuck up every fucking article and conjugation, you'd think he'd get at least some right on accident. Is this all a meme, like the grammar mistakes in the first chapter, or is Pynchon just a lazy social recluse too autistic to ask even a single German speaking individual to proofread his writing?

I skimmed it looking for umlauts and specific instances I remember; the actual number of wrong German phrases is easily in the 50s
He gets right phrases that I assume he learned on their own, like Der Feind hört zu and Was ist los?, but the moment he produces a word or phrase of his own there's a mistake. I challenge anyone to find a correct German phrase (that is not an idiom) in Gravity's Rainbow.
