Fun fact: before Ww1 and Ww2 German was so widely spoken in the US that is was practically the second language behind English. In many places around the US, especially in the mid-west, church services would be held in English and then they would be held in German. It was almost impossible to find someone in the US around that time who didn’t speak or understand at least a little bit of German, but when Ww1 and 2 happened Germans were seen as the enemy and it was shameful to speak German, so a whole tradition died overnight

A lot of people in my county have german/prussian flags in their house and study german and oktoberfest is big-ish here. I met some nice germans tell me about Germany with thick accents during it which is nice (also btw I'm not German nor do I look anything close to European but I'm friends with a few German nationalists. Good folks.) Shame so many Americans are retarded about germany because I'm very fond of their culture as long as it doesn't include the food.
