I'm 30 now and I'm slowly finding fiction to be pointless. I'll pick up a piece of fiction and if it feels even slightly contrived I have a hard time sticking with it.
I'm not trying to be a pseud. In fact I'm kind of bummed. I have memories of being so excited reading Harry Potter at 12 that I couldn't keep my legs still. I feel those days are gone.
Any other anons feel more inclined towards non-fiction as they get older?
Almost 30. I like to alternate between nonfiction and fiction, these days, and they're usually related somehow. One feeds into the other.
I used to only be able to stand Asimov's nonfiction, although it was a little out of date. Luckily for me he wrote 150+ books.
Adrian Mitchell
Wouldn't say I find it pointless rather I find non-fiction to be more fascinating most the time.
Liam Jones
It's normal for males op. You're slowly becoming dad tier. Embrace it. Pick a historical era you like and learn the ins and outs. You can get into war gaming as well.
Owen Collins
i too have fond memories of reading harry potter as a kid OP fiction is something you grow out of. i feel like i don't have time for fiction anymore. there is a lot of great fiction out there though. but i have more important things on my mind
Christian Powell
read Yeats read poetry
Zachary Morris
It's okay op. Just go with it. Let go of the past.
Ian Green
Fiction can be useful if it teaches you something about reality. Fiction is, after all, still written by real people. Why don't you try alternating fiction and non-fiction, or reading non-fiction that is as interesting in plot as fiction?
Xavier Hughes
read books that thrive on that aspect Like The Golden Ass
Owen Bailey
Depends on what you mean by non-fiction. Insightful, elaborate records of studies, whatever their domain may be? Sure. Loose self-helpy "we live in a society" preaches? If it's the latter, good fiction does it better. You'll learn more from a good novel than any book that belongs to the latter category.
Xavier Morales
Oh, also, eliminating your exposure to fiction and considering the fact that there is little to none aesthetic dimension to non-fiction will also fuck with your ability to appreciate beauty. Or limit its spectrum. Which non only makes for a lesser human experience, but even if you only care about muh cold hard faxxxx, it may introduce blind spots in your ability to reason.
Eli Lee
this, sophistry is a cancer on modern nonfiction
Evan Gomez
I find history can be a better read than fiction. Kinda hard to be spooked by anything once you've read about people throwing babies into incinerators, and knowing that *that actually happened*.
Luis White
Reading history is the biggest waste of your life. It's good to have a general gist of world history but getting into detail has almost no use for the average man. Fiction actually enriches your everyday experiences, just the same way as all other art.
Alexander Turner
historical fiction can be good
Eli Davis
>Oh, also, eliminating your exposure to fiction and considering the fact that there is little to none aesthetic dimension to non-fiction will also fuck with your ability to appreciate beauty
This is something dumb a stupid young person would say. It's cute.
Xavier Davis
>Fiction actually enriches your everyday experiences, just the same way as all other art.
Okay But,do you need to make this same fucking thread everyfuckingday? Stop making these "Am I the only that X" threads. Why are you so insecure about your opinion? Fuck off. This isn't even the only "am I the only one who likes nonfiction more than fiction huehue" or " *basedjack.jpg* with a "I like fiction" in quotes. Kill yourself.
William Ward
I haven't been on lit for months. Maybe spend less time on Yea Forums you brainlet and you wont notice the repetition.
Matthew Hall
Should I really pursue butterfly if she is a 47 year old?
Samuel Thompson
I'm 93.
Justin Robinson
Maybe I over-analyze everything but I feel that way about anything anymore, though there are diamonds in the rough every now and again. I don't know how many non-fiction books I've read that are either poorly composed or poorly thought out. It's really a mixed bag, don't give up on fiction.
You need to realize a lot of people can share annopinion
Hunter Smith
Oh hey look it's that faggot mediator again! Why don't you just join the other 2 faggots on Yea Forums in another thread while me and this guy duke it out!
Jace Scott
Are you saying butterfly is lying about her age? :3
Sebastian Mitchell
No,you fucking haven't you smug cunt. Maybe fucking check the catalog first before making the same thread as the 50 other of you retards who make the exact same thread with the exact same replies.
