Ligotti is a mentally ill dude trapped in anhedonia and prescribed meds for it. His worldview is pretty much the symptom of a society driven by mechanistic thinking about the need for function and utility. His ideal world is one where everyone is enlightened (???) and has no ego, i.e. where everything just runs like clockwork.

Suicide may make sense logically, but evolution has designed it to be the most traumatic experience one can possibly imagine. This is Ligotti's answer to the popular "why dont you just le kill urself xD" argument often thrown to antinatalists - there's a very big difference between non-existence, and existence converted into non-existence through the mortifying act of dying.

Whats impressive about the Universe?
It's pointlessly gigantic, mostly empty and cold space with random junk floating in circles, until some of that junk gets large enough to burn. There are no spacefaring civilizations to befriend or culturally exchange (read: fuck) with, no lovecraftian monsters who eat planets whole, no higher intellects constructing dyson rings everywhere, no mysterious rifts in space, no habitable planets just waiting to be explored.
