Judaism is complicated because it spans some 3000 years. Naturally, the name meant different things for different people at different times. Many different religions currents and schools, like Hasidism, are massively important for contemporary Judaism but need an elementary grasp of the Rabbinic tradition and it's preoccupations. What I can give from a non-specialized background is an elementary grasp of core Rabbinic beliefs and themes, and these are best found (I think) in antiquity when they were formed.
