Monolingual brainlets will disagree but you're absolutely right. If you call yourself an intellectual but can't speak at least 5 languages you're a posturing pseud.

the basics of every language are easy

I want to learn it for the poetry.

>start learning french one evening, just for the meme, and because I want to read Don Quixote in the original language someday
>it's actually in spanish

i used stuff like this

I hate you for making me laugh with that shitty joke.

>does a duolingo course
>wow learning languages is fucking easy!
don't be this person user.

i never use duolingo though, it's a trash app

>start learning japanese for the memes and manga
>one year later I can't even read manga without typing in everything for rikaichan

OP here, already learnt jap
give it a year more or something like that, and you'll be at least N3 level.

>2 years to get to N3
What the fuck were you doing to take this long?

can you even read? I said "at least".

My point stands, N2 is the very minimum in two years, or you might as well just give up.

japanese isnt easy especially when you're beginning

It is one of the easiest (if not the easiest language) for an English speaker to learn. It's also very useful for reading literature. I wish you the best, user.

>it's really fucking easy
wait until you get to learning genders

thanks friend

you know, I have no desire to take the stupid reddit tier jlpt. The kind of fucks who study for the test can't even speak the shit for real. I just want to be able to read big boy books and hold autistic conversations in my head.
Hold in your autism, no one here cares how quickly you grinded. You aren't impressing anyone by being a dick.

Is there something better? Besides a class obviously, I’m just looking for some extra practice

french gender is so fucking stupid

Faggots trying to learn baguette, fuck off..
Learn German, the superior language!

Je suis un chien

German sucks, I'd rather learn Italian. At least they have Dante.

t. europeasant who actually needs to know languages

in murica theres just no reason to learn and foreign films and tv suck for the most part

what's the best way to learn? do you have to buy books or can you just translate newspapers?

Good lad.
Next , Maldoror.
Go for a challenge.

>start to learn french
>easy to read
>can't understand shit when people are talking

J'ai besoin d'une chienne.

>Learn French and finally visit France after years of study

I'd say you have a bad case of Duning-Kruger syndrome, but french really IS easy. My only time learning it was 3 years of biweekly lessons in school, and now I can read most texts without much trouble.

look here, the negroes and arabs are able to parlez francais, so why wouldn't anyone else with half a brain be able to too?

What fucks me up with French is the pronunciations that slur words together and don't have the harsh distinctions between words in close proximity you tend to get in English.

Also the gendered nouns.

Also the fucking CONJUGATION. Outside of present imparfait futur passe compose imperatif and infintif. It's the need for 2 conditionell, 3 more subjunctive beyond the original, just so much bloat.

Compare it all to English To Be:
>Be
>Being
>Been
>am/was
>are/were
>is/was
>are/were

That's it.

Enjoy learning about different tenses

Five of those are literary tenses that are never used when speaking. And they're easy to recognize/interpret. It's not like anyone in Yea Forums is gonna start writing their diary in French.

Complaining about gender (Common in all European languages) and verb tenses (All latin-based languages have the same ones as French basically) is silly.

>>it's really fucking easy, aside from the pronunciation
Ironic, I find the pronunciation and reading very easy. On the other hand, to mantain a decent conversation and to master the verbs, well...

I don't like modern France, but I am in awe of what they once were.

step outside of paris?

>Five of those are literary tenses that are never used when speaking.
Weren't you annoyed that the French translator of Stoner doesn't use subjonctif imparfait properly?

but lyon et marseille are also multiculti.
switzerland is the last defender of la french culture, hein

Literally every Romance language out there has more or less the same tenses. It must be hell for english speakers to learn though, english doesn't even have an actual future tense.

Literally every european language, except like, the scandinavian ones, english and dutch.

>tfw an awful, inbred teacher ruined my love for french during my first year of high school
>haven't progressed since
why live

The same happened to me in regards to German. I'm confident that it would be easy to learn at this point in time, but back then we were dragged through monotonous bullshit that didn't improve our abilities at all. Thus was my flame for the German language extinguished.

this happened to me too. I don't really have this problem with other languages.

This pic is porn to me desu. God bless french language.

J'ai toujours peur de parler français avec des Français, sauf les Français qui étaient mes profs
tuez-mois svp

comic books. pirate them from libgen

>tuez-mois
Definitely not ready to seduce hairy french women.

>foreign films and tv suck for the most part
Sure, when you're a monolingual subhuman.

French nouns don't even inflect for gender. Are you literally mentally challenged?

The flipside of a country with an actual history -unlike burgerland- is that virtually every place is worth visiting.
Avoid the biggest urban economic hubs and you should be golden.

Well, I'll never have my hairy Gitanes smoking goddess, but most French make these kind of mistakes all the time. Maybe I could settle with a barely literate but hot cagole

lol no
