Not a book, but Umberto Eco.

anywhere

You’ve probably already read it, but Catcher in the Rye.

is he similar to Musil? I love Musil and want to read something else like that

No, he’s not like Musil at all. I can’t think of anyone like Musil.

no. all his books a basically very long monologues with barely any paragraph breaks you are in one character's head the whole time. he writes in a ranting stream of conscious.

I’ve only read By Night in Chile in that style. Bummer. Thought it was like Musil. Has anyone read The Sleepwalkers by Broch? I might read that

I am also interested. I absolutely adore this book.

Specifically something that isn't more Pynchon, also that is not The Sot-Weed Factor.

Like Musil user, you are making this very difficult.
I would suggest Donald Barthelme’s short stories. Stories like “Porcupines at the University” have that element of “:p so zany! Humour.”

true grit

I'm starting to accept the fact that I will never read another book that I will enjoy more than Mrs Dalloway.

the sound and the fury

Alright I'll try it. I tried reading as I lay dying a few years ago and it never really clicked with me. How is the sound and the fury different?
