Rambo: First Blood Part 2 is totally underappreciated in the modern age and was a total blast for me to watch in 2019.

The part after the Viets kill her girlfriend when he comes back to their camp to kill all of them and rescue the POWs is one of the best action fragments ever.

Dunno, they both made some really good films and they both became irrelevant for mainstream audiences around the same time.

In the last 20 years though it's Stallone because he's had The Expendables and the Rambo films.

I do think Stallone has made more "good" films overall though.

It's hard to call. Stallone usually played heroic roles, although in Rambo 2 he did burn down a farming village full of innocent women and children for no reason. Whereas Arnold in the 80s spent most of his movies eradicating the Hispanic population. It's a shame John Matrix and John Rambo never teamed up to go on safari in Chicago or Tel Aviv.

I think he was wistfully hoping that John would let him go on a killing spree. They were on the Mexican border and 1) the T-800's natural programming is to slaughter humans, and 2) Arnold's natural programming is to slaughter (or impregnate) Hispanics.

Depends. Arnold choose way better directors to work with.

Sly had a massive ego and largely choose director puppets where he could ghost direct the movies. All of the Rambo movies are basically directed by Sly himself according to the staff and especially Cosmatos only did minor directing for First Blood Part 2 and Cobra.

But I think people give Stallone more shit than he deserves, aside from Cobra who was on par with Commando in terms of depth, all of his action movies deal with deeper themes than Arnis action movies aside from Terminator 1 and 2. Rambo 1 and 2 are partly character dramas.

But overall I must say Arni, he was smart enough to let the director be the decision maker and don't put 100% of his ego into the productions, Sly always interfered into script and directing, which is why barely anyone of the big 80s and 90s directors worked with him.

Jackie's hard to top because of a lot of things he does for his action. Even having a dedicated crew of his own stuntmen. Not to mention Jackie's knack for timing and comedy.
Arnie OTOH has got to be among the top, and seems to have a somewhat similar ethic with Jackie. He improved his english, and went beyond acting.

Definitely Arnold with his ability to pick 10/10 films. Stallone might have him beat in quantity of solid movies though especially in his later years.

Arnold had a better run of better movies. To nitpick, I also would have a hard time considering Rocky or Rocky II action movies.

Nonetheless the cultural impact of Rocky and Rambo are massive. First Blood and Rocky 1 are excellent films, both of which are possibly better movies than anything Arnie starred in.
