Poor;y written? It was one of the few things Toriyama actually spent time building up to the entire fucking series since Gohans introduction. His SSJ2 was destined.

Side note; personal opinion: Buu saga sucks and isn't canon. Gohan never transformed into SSj2, and SSj2 isn't a transformation. It was only Gohan unlucking his full latent powers.

Lots of build-up, the trope of the father passing the torch to his son, how it was pretty obvious from early on that Gohan being a hapa makes him more powerful/apt to grow faster than a purebreed, and Being about 12 and having zero taste helps

It's pretty obvious Toriyama stopped giving a shit after Cell saga and all the transformations and fusions and shit after that is him giving the execs and fans exactly what they wanted, good and hard as they deserve.

The Faulconer themes during the final Kamehameha struggle was incredible and made the scene

It's hilarious when people defend the clusterfuck that is the Buu saga. Toriyama descended fully into a hack. The saga is laden with shit writing and endless fan service. Buu is a laughable villain, SSJ3 was a ridiculous unearned ass pull, Gohan is horribly mishandled, and then all the fusion crap. The only thing that redeems the saga is Vegeta's character development. Still, too little too late.

Rewatched this section for the first time in 20 years. Fuck me it went on forever, I remembered him transforming then putting cell down twice in two eps. But I forgot how entire episodes were filled with screaming. I think it was 7-8 eps in the end.

Faulconer synthesizer was better than what most western cartoons worked with but the nip score is flawless and not fuelled by an autistic need to fill the episode with music, lest the stupid fucking kids get bored and change the channel.
Same thing applies to every character grunting as they react to something in the dub. It's silly and patronizing as hell to young viewers.

America's only real exposure to DB/Z is the Funimation localization so discussion of DB/Z on Yea Forums outside of Yea Forums must be considered in the context of the localization.

I'm not saying they did a good job, but this is what we got. Why they had to change the score is a mystery to me, I assume it has something to do with onerous music licensing.

Because most people who watched it were edgy 13 year olds who self-inserted as Gohan and are looking back with rose-colored glasses. The Cell Saga goes in the shitter once 17 gets absorbed and is objectively the worst DBZ saga.

And licensing is always the reason any musical change happens. Royalties are pricy and probably an uncomfortable cost when Funimation was just starting out (despite getting the license for a song due to nepotism). The end of the Cell Games took years to be put on DVD because the insert song during Gohan's SSJ2 bit had such a big price tag on it. Funi just skipped it over and went right to highschool Gohan, it was kind of embarrassing.

Dunno, it draws further away from the original "dragonball" feel the longer it goes on. Make your own judgement if you like it or not.

even though Kai changes a lot of lines for the worse, its dub is WAY better than the original dub. Cuts down on a lot of the filler too, 300+ episodes originally down to less than 150

If you want more at that point watch an abridged version of Z or DB kai.
Gt isnt canon but starts out pretty fun, end up being garbage. Its the best parts of db ( the adventure / exploration) mixed with the worst parts of z ( episodes of screaming and powering up, 3 minutes of fighting and then the opponent starts screaming & powering up)
Super is just for the original fans who are starved for content.

well there's been fan projects for both those animes that do that. The guy who did Naruto though did it with a shitty source so I've never watched it all the way through
