Oh Oh.
THE MATRIX is a rip-off of two unproduced LAWNMOWER MAN sequel treatments by Grant Morrison
>abduction experience in Khatmandu
what?
or a rip off of Dark City.
t. retard zoomer that never read Neuromancer and doesn’t already know it’s a rip off of that
>unproduced
lol who cares
you illiterate or something?
Grant Morrison is an overrated hack. The only people who like him are just pretending because they're trying to look smart.
It's a ripoff of a lot of things like: world on a wire (1973), chinese martial arts movies, ghost in the shell, neuromancer, probably some comic book shit too.
it's also a backwards Tron, retarded zoomer
the people behind the lawnmower man series couldn't have executed on the idea 1/100th as well as the wachowskis so who cares
a good idea aint worth shit if you can't turn it into kino
There's a story been floating around for years that copies of Grant Morrison's comic The Invisibles were handed out on the set of The Matrix.
I read the series later and while the general concept is only vaguely related, there's a whole story arc that is stylisticly very similar, down to imagery of stuff like the bug in Neo etc.
Grant Morrison and his buddy saw a documentary on TV where a guy climbed a staircase something like 40,000 steps holding his breath to reach enlightenment. Grant thought that was the easiest way to reach enlightment ever so him and the buddy went up there, took a little hash, and made the climb. A couple of days later Grant had a (allegedly sober) "abduction"/hallucination/whatever you wanna call it where basically he came into contact with the machine elves
He is one of the only good capeshit writers
Wow, I always thought Matrix was 13th Floor ripoff. Gotta learn new things everyday.
>hmmmm tell me trinity...you think that’s low fat cake you’re eating.
>Lawnmower Man
Isn't that the movie that made David Koresh go nuts?
It was nothing like dark city...
Neuromancer has jackshit to do with being trapped inside a simulation, but thanks for playing, you absolute pseud
If the idiots on this board are saying this about him, he's most likely pretty good. Thanks for the rec, faggot
Underrated post
Stop sniffing glue, pal.
The madman
that's the plot of the Invisibles, he's already said he considers the Matrix a blatant copy of his work
>Stephen King inspired
the original story is lierally about a guy who phones a lawn maintenace company and the guy who shows up walks on all fours and eats his grass.
are you have the dumb you fucking guy
No wonder the sequels were so shit. They should've asked Grant to write them
you have the guy are you fucking dumb
Lawnmower Man is the kind of movie that would benefit heavily from a remake. CGI is now insanely good and its plot is pretty remarkable, though its original execution was a complete turd
His run on Batman is probably the best run in the character's history.
but also don't call it "lawnmower man" this time. I've never seen the movie because of that dumb title. the other reason are the bad reviews but I would have probably ignored those if it had a cool title.
Yes it does you moron read the book. The title of the book itself is about the AI that created the Matrix world that CEOs spend their time in while in suspended animation. Stop talking out of your ass without reading the book you mouthbreather.
Post the Wachowski boys
No. The Matrix was a contender against "The 13th floor" and it won. Every 5-10 years there's a push for movies following the same concept. They release them in a cluster and see which one sticks
That's his exact idea for The Invisibles. Looks like he pitched it as a film first and then wrote it up as a comic, his bread and butter. Everyone knows he's been trying to break into Hollywood for decades but he can't write a proper screenplay for his life. And this is coming from a fan.
I'm reading Grant Morrison's New X Men and it's fucking garbage, I thought the guy was supposed to be a good writer
that's not a contradiction. the lawnmower sequel idea might have been the spark that lead to both of those projects, or it, too, goes back to something even older.
Lawmower Man was fucking kino, sad it's sequel was shit
Fair enough
Owned him.
>he doesnt know about axlotl tanks from dune
For the most part, comic book writing is god awful. Morrison's New X-Men run is one of the best arcs but is ruined by awful artists when the talented ones took too long to illustrate issues. Each issue has more ideas than whole other arcs combines. While you may not like it, you can't slight Morrison for your shit taste. Besides Claremont's initial run, no other writer that has written X-Men can compare.
Sounds like he got altitude sickness due to low oxygen which was made worse with the hash.
all these years later and Lawnmower Man is still the stupidest title for a movie or book ever.
That's a bit of a stretch, it's like saying Herbert copied his ideas from human female reproductive systems. We need to draw a line at a certain point
Stephen King wasn't dumb enough to name an entier book after the short story. The filmmakers, however...
You wierdos tricked me into watching LM2:JW, which is horrible, but horrible in a specifically mid-nineties straight to cable way, and thus highly nostalgic. The only good thing in the movie is Frewer, and his delivery in a more than a few places anticipates Carrey's Mask.
we need to go deeper
Flowers for Algernon has been made many times, as movies, stage plays, radio dramas. Lawnmower Man was simply an adaptation set in a contemporary context.
It reminded me of the AT&T "You will" commercials of the same era.
>humans are no longer born, they are grown
Dunes a pretty obvious inspiration but its more subtle. Some examples
>neo goes blind but can still see due to his special vision
>war against thinking machines
>humans grown in tanks
>neo/paul created as part of a measure of control for humans but they ultimately carve their own path to save humanity
flowers of algernon is also a bad title. movie audiences would imagine a romance drama hearing that title.
its a ripoff of Platoes shadows in the cave plebeian
Man I miss those. I ran across an old copy of Fortune magazine that pretty much did a print equivalent campaign, explaining what the internet would probably be like.
>LAWNMOWER LAND
can we get a La La Land mash up instead?
> backwards Tron
mind blown
You are the fucking clowns here. Count Zero is the one about the simulated cyberspace- Neuromancer was not at all about it.
End your "lifes"
>Man I miss those AT&T commercials.
You should consider killing yourself.
except that it's all standard Hero Journey shit taken off Campbell. Which he'd taken from literally ten thousand years of Eurasian storytelling.
I'm sorry, but of all the stories and themes the W siblings ripped off, I'm not counting this bullshit. The Ws had better taste.
I think you're just too dumb for his work bro. It's ok.
>Stephen King-inspired
They took/stole? the fucking name and that's it. The film, good or bad, has fuck all to do with the King story.
>Looks like he pitched it as a film first and then wrote it up as a comic
Reminds me of The Middlemen.
that sounds fucking awesome
movie when?
Wtf is lawnmower man? I generally avoid anything that has normie authors like King attached to it.
Guy who turns into a lawnmower every 3 weeks and mows a scientists lawn. Some guy sees him transform so he mows him to death.
Very likely, his experiences have merit beyond mere hallucinations when you read into shared hallucinations and modern psychonauts. He recounts the experience from various perspectives in his writings.
It was filmed on the same sets as dark city.
I think that’s what he meant.
>that
>anywhere close to being a matrix ripoff
lol gay shit, OP sucks cock
bet half you faggots don't even know what other scifi released that same year as the first matrix that was the superior movie with similar themes
also you could also say being john malkovich was another 1999 movie that is matrix-esque (but not the movie im alluding to in my previous sentence)
