George C. Scott and Klaus Kinski are up there.

Louis Garrel lol

the goose

Me for acting like i give a shit at my job

Lou Diamond Philips

Of the last 50 years, Philip Seymour Hoffman. Even better than Daniel Day in a lot of ways. I miss that fat fuck so damn much

youtube.com/watch?v=0auwpvAU2YA

No actor before has ever given this amount of passion to their work.

Nicholson or Day Lewis

I agree

kek

>on the set of Terminator Salvation
wow, imagine caring that much about such a shitty movie

I'm a conservative doing a masters in sociology and politics.. every day is a complicated intellectual and social act bordering on self-mutilation

based wagie enabling strong, muscular NEETs like me

Los dos doubles

he has hardly any range, but he has never given a bad performance

Brando was a pretentious faggot that ruined Hollywood, fuck him.

>musician
>comedian

BRADDU PITTU

Brando showed up late without having read the script at all, didn't listen to directors, read his lines literally off cards taped to his co-stars, and still delivered 10/10 performances. He was truly the greatest

you forgot
>Nigger

hes poster boy for diversity shoved by Hollywood to make us think like blacks can be talented

>how 'bout you leave the no-wrist eating rice boy and fight a real man like me

Define "best actor"
Most range? Best performances?

fuck off

seething wh*toids

Christoph Waltz said their's no such thing as a good actor, just good casting, and this guy is a perfect example of that

Robert De Niro.

what's your /u/ bro?

as a kid i thought brando was an old man in goldfather, then i see him in Superman years later and he looks better.

He's just saying that cause the only good acting he has ever done has been in Inglorious Basterds.

edie

I think it'd be De Niro, Day-Lewis, Seymour Hoffman, Pacino, Nicholson, and then maybe Joaquin Phoenix among more modern actors.

Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, Brando, Lancaster, Von Sydow, Mastrioanni, Lemmon, and Clift were tops for Golden Age actors.

IF the rumors that Demi moore and P Swayze actually hated each others is true, I would say them , hands down.
In Ghost they actually look and act like they are mad in love with each other the whole damn movie, It's amazing

That's actually a good point. He basically did The Godfather in his sleep and it's one of the most kino performances of all time. There's even that one 50's movie where he does yellowface and he's legit convincing as a Japanese dude.

I think it was Pacino who said that Brando could nail scenes he'd have to practice for weeks. He was just incredibly naturally talented.

Don't know of all time but I'd say Willem Dafoe is the best actor around in 21st century

Rainier of Monaco was an actor?

You posted him. Dude walk over anyone he shared a scene with and he was barely even awake/thinking about food.

that's because he always played the same role

Attached: Sean_Whalen.png (450x600, 396K)

jack of all trades; master of literally none haha lol

Oh, is this who Yea Forums is attacking now? I thought that was De Niro.

He didn't play the same role at all in Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, Scarface, The Godfather, When Frankie Met Johnny or Glengarry Glen Ross.

why are you only posting dudes? who is the best female actor?

Saoirse Ronan is incapable of giving a not great performance

Katharine Hepburn, Barbara Stanwyck, Greta Garbo, Hideko Takamine, Setsuko Hara, Isabelle Huppert, Gena Rowlands, Glenn Close, Julianne Moore, and Meryl Streep.

Humphrey Bogart

ugh
could you narrow it down?

Bill Shatner, I agree with what Tarantino said.

“I’m a big fan of the show Star Trek. I really like it a lot, but my portal into that show is William Shatner," he explained. "I love William Shatner on Star Trek. I love his performance as James T. Kirk. That is my connection. That is my umbilical cord. It’s why I like Star Trek more than Star Wars, because William Shatner’s not in Star Wars. I think it’s one of the greatest performances in the history of episodic television, of a series lead, and rightly so, because very few series leads have ever gotten the opportunity to play all the different wild, crazy things. ‘The Enemy Within’ alone.”

Plus he'll probably live to be the fattest centenarian in history.

Attached: 20232869_700773496795358_2535747715330519245_o.jpg (1024x768, 61K)

Barbara Stanwyck, followed by Rowlands and Huppert.

I'd add Faye Dunaway to that list.

Do people seriously rate Brando? I get he was a funny guy but his performances are terrible, he comes across as a mumbling spastic in every movie

Noice, a man of taste I see.

Attached: 597f50e61058513b828c7e28940af5a6.jpg (721x900, 67K)

I wish she had a longer filmography. She's great in Chinatown and Network but after that she falls off a cliff.

not saying best of all time but find a better actress of the past 15 yrs

Have actors gotten better or worse over time?

Tommy Wiseau or Neil Breen.

Alec Guinness

>mfw no one posted Peter Sellers

I would unironically follow captain kirk to the depths of hell in back, and I think I owe most of that feeling to shatners performance.

Lead actors have become worse, character actors have mostly stayed the same

Unfortunately Mommy Dearest kind of ruined her career, which is a shame because I think she was really good in it. I guess everyone loves to joke "lol COAT HANGERSSS xD" and that's kind of become its legacy.

Peaked in the 70s. Too many modern actors fall for the method meme and the ones who dont usually don't need to act because 90% of movies are shit.

I think lead actors don't have the roles anymore

Kurt Russell

A lot of fags say Brando because he was handsome as a young man and they wanted to fuck him. I’d say the question is a fag filter. Serious cinephiles know Brando couldn’t carry Paul Newman’s jock strap.

They do, it's just Yea Forums ignores anything that isn't capeshit

Oh, Shia Labeouf, easily

Yeah. Apparently she was a pain in the ass to work with too, which hurt her career even more.
I like De Niro, Pacino, Nicholson, and Cazale but besides them, the 70s generation is kind of overrated. Does anyone in 2019 actually think Dustin Hoffman is a good actor with classic movies?

51 eggs Newman! 51 eggs!

This user gets it

Attached: NINTCHDBPICT000003405197[1].jpg (2059x1433, 390K)

>Does anyone in 2019 actually think Dustin Hoffman is a good actor with classic movies?
Yes, he has been in a lot of good movies and is underrated compared to the ones who played gangsters

Attached: B44C9F5A-EEFE-49ED-A5AE-D4F2BEBE7B01.jpg (1000x563, 168K)

All The President's Men holds up and I like Lenny. But The Graduate, Tootsie, Midnight Cowboy, and Kramer vs. Kramer have got to be the most outdated shit. And it's not like his other 70s pics, like Marathon Man or Straw Dogs or whatever are exactly cherished today.

Hollywood ones have always been bad, leads have probably gotten worse as another said, but more actors from outside the US get work now so that has balanced it out.

>Dustin Hoffman
Midnight Cowboy is so fucking good. Easily one of my all time favorite films.

Thought he was out-acted by Voight, personally.

Yes, Jean Reno, I like this guy

Attached: 60556e6471d6f9b9a96b09e6ffc57d1d.jpg (306x423, 34K)

Some of his later films are underrated like Hook, Joan of Arc, Mad City

I agree.

I think "I Heart Huckabees" is the best movie he showed up in, in the 21st century. And probably add Wag The Dog to your list.

The best actors are the ones who manage to change their accents and pull off different characters. Guys like De Niro and Pacino have zero range

For me, it's Paul Newman

Attached: cb1ec41d-6f50-4f9b-8ac7-487ee46dd652_1.3818264961645517c23f3982fb45f591.jpg (450x450, 38K)

Based. Better than Brando.

>Willem Dafoe
>Spider-Man (2002)
Fair enough.

t.phonies

Yeah but look at Hoffman's performance in Papillon compered to Rami Malek (last years Oscar winning actor) playing the same character in the 2017 remake (this is a pretty good film btw). Hoffman fucking blows Malek out of the water. Makes him look like acting student.

Attached: MV5BNTAyMDkxOTk3M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNDc2NjIwMjE@._V1_SY1000_SX800_AL_.jpg (800x1000, 78K)

I like Rami Malek, but he doesn't have range.

Making Malek look like an amateur is not that hard.

>Rami Malek
youtube.com/watch?v=c-VExtx2aTY

For some reason people never discuss Newman's films.

cause he's a phony

Dustin Hoffman is legendary and his performance is undoubtedly better, but Malek is still quite talented and your comparison of the two doesn't discredit his art.

what about robert redford? his performance in all is lost is one of the best in recent memory.

His performance in Doubt opposite Meryl Streep was fucking amazing. I miss him too.

I'm gonna fucking kick your fucking ass, if you don't shut up for a second!

Peter O'Toole

Hey I like Malek, he's good but that's my point. Hoffman is is way...way above him in acting talent. It's a shame he's mostly remembered by zoomers in shit like Meet the Fockers.

You mean here? This place is swarming with underage, you expect too much.
That was a great movie too, I like redford a lot as an actor but he continues to have his head lodged up his ass with his shitty directorial efforts.

Yeah I miss when actors had an aura around them. Redford is superb.

Attached: 34804E83-6813-4388-BD31-13A3B0615D9E.jpg (1365x556, 39K)

uh, who?

Dont summon his ghost!

Too late!

Either DDL or joaquin phoenix. They can go places other actors can't

>They can go places other actors can't
kek

Pacino, for me. His acting in Godfather II can't be topped.

whats his worst movie? oceans 13?

Attached: Gary-Oldman-111017-Darkest-Hour-2.jpg (297x396, 21K)

I like Redford but if you want to talk about having no range....

88 Minutes

Loved Scott in his rendition of a christmas carol. Any other kinos?

Me when I come home drunk and my parents are not asleep yet

Patton and Dr. Strangelove.

>Me for acting like i give a shit at my job

Marlon Brando actually alludes to this in his memoir when he said everybody can act and they do.

Attached: brando.jpg (298x169, 8K)

Is Patton supposed to be a comedy? I've never seen it, but every time I see a clip of it Scott looks like he's hamming it up so much it looks comical.

youtube.com/watch?v=slU3ATbH1Vg

gee I wonder why

Attached: 1554672402608s.jpg (247x250, 11K)

Probably because people only recognize him from Doctor Strangelove and cant appreciate his other turns. Being there is one of the best performances of all time.

this or nicholson

I found out yesterday that this fucker played Colonel Walter E. Kurtz on Apocalypse Now.

I was fucking blown away.

Attached: sdfsda.jpg (220x229, 4K)

I liked that movie a lot.

and he's garbage at all of them

The fact that people make fun of an exaggerated mockery of his acting style nearly 60 years later shows how hard he carried that show. Dude was a beast.

Him and Leonard Nemoy were genuinely fantastic actors.

Based, Seymour Hoffman was amazing

I like his ranch dressing.

YOU'RE A PHONY NEWMAN

Basically this Only very few can become "legendary" at one of these things and even fewer can become legendary at some of these things.

That guy in your image that I forget the name of is legendary in NONE of those things mentioned.

Why is it that some people want to push black people even though they are barely keeping their head above water in the average category? As I get older, I understand this world less and less.

Attached: images3.jpg (284x177, 4K)

This. Point me in the direction of one bad Viggo performance, just one.

He may not have been the best but Cary Grant was the greatest.

I know swayze and jennifer grey hated each other when filming dirty dancing

edie falco

Max von Sydow. Always great in whatever he is in.

Attached: ingmar_bergman_seventh_seal_2a_4-998x758.jpg (998x758, 77K)

Shatner played some good roles in film before he started taking any tv role for money. Judgement at Nuremberg and this. While people still applaud Gregory Peck and To Kill A Mockingbird, Shatner went for the jugular in that same year (1962) with a far harder hitting film that was almost forgotten about. His speech at 23:54 where he tries to turn a whole town against black people is the most un-Captain Kirk thing I've ever seen.

I wish movie makeup was this great again, it's sad that trash like Suicide Squad wins oscars for shit like this now.

Faxx

>tfw co-worker called me this once
How do I utilize this ability irl?

For me, its A Shot in the Dark

Hi Bill
You're absolutely correct too

Film production is very time consuming and tiring, especially if it's a blockbuster like Terminator. Even if it's shit, you must be socially retarded to not understand how someone could get heated while making it.

Attached: 1490038283350.gif (265x257, 1.78M)

Imagine fucking up a scene for a couple of commited actors multiple times and being surprised that you get called out on it

I completely forgot Rami Malek won Best Actor this year for Bohemian Rhapsody, god what a shitty oscar ceremony.

One of my favorites as well user

This, the guy was the best part of almost everything he was in

He was top in all of the Pink Panther films. Seriously the greatest comedic talent of his day

*blocks your path*

Gaddamn Brando was still handsome af In the 1970s

Attached: AR-190909923.jpg (1666x1665, 154K)

You forgot to add(or trade actually) Moorehead, Leigh, Adjani and Falconetti

So fucking cute and talented!
