See, I didn't mind the sister shit, it was a decent emotional device to get to the strife between Tony, his lifestyle, and friends. Much better than the wife, IMO.
It just takes so fucking long to get to it.
It's like it's trying to be some atmospheric, science-fiction slow burn except instead of all the creative allure of sci-fi it's greasy ass Cubans and shitty acting.
I mean fuck, if there were ever a testament to Tarantino's half-decent quality for scriptwriting and directing actors, its this shitty movie and Brian De Palma's non-career.

Pretty sure the draw of the story was that a free and otherwise well-off African-American was caught up in slavery trafficking.
Also the direction of the acting, that's always Steve McQueen's strength for me, regardless of the story being told.
I mean, Bobby Sands? Yeah, it's the IRA, yeah the prison conditions were shit, evil on both sides, yada yada yada. You're there for the atmosphere and that uncut dialogue between Fassbender and O'Brien.
