Why is the anti Bush stuff charming, but the anti Trump stuff cringe?
Liberals are more emotional now and Trump is an unusual president.
Trump agitates them more where as Bush was passive to his critics and pretty much let the media say what ever they wanted about him even at the cost of his own war with Iraqi which by the end of his presidency was finally getting better after all the misssteps. Trump meanwhile is constantly calling out his critics and discrediting the media which has lead them to triple down in a desperate attempt to stir hatred that has only made them look stupid. The fact that it is so personal makes all there attempts at parody seem mean spirited and desperate where as with Bush it was more casual this more funny.

I think it's BECAUSE of Bush that anti-Trump stuff is so embarrassing. The level of media criticism and parody that Bush received was unprecedented. It was new, it was unique, it was groundbreaking. Now, it's blase. You are no longer violating a taboo, you are no longer being transgressive, you're just repeating yourself. They shot their wad.
At least the intro let's you know what the show is all about.
