They want you to think they're all living in mansions and ultimate luxury, but maybe 5% make it there. They make a damned good living, but average pay for a medium sized role in a movie is a couple hundred grand, MAX. They get a lot of free shit, but a lot of them are broke, or near broke. Throw a good drug habit in or worse, divorce for actors, and that's why so many shitty movies are made with decent actors. And explains why so many shitty actresses have mansions and don't work much.

In the NFL, for example, an elite player increases ticket and merch sales way beyond their annual salary, so even if they make $15m a year the bosses STILL make money off them. And the starters who make "only" $1m are massive profit generators.

Meanwhile a teacher generates exactly zero profit, and in fact financially is the number one cost of a school district, so their salary already reflects massive altruism and "merit points".
