What are some Yea Forums approved Japanese Animation films?

Starting with an easy one

Akira is held in high regard here.

Ghost in the Shell
Millennium Actress
Jin-Roh The Wolf Brigade
The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl

Spirited Away has pacing issues. I'm not remotely surprised Miyazaki's original draft was totally excessive for a single movie.

any of Miyazaki films really

Apple Seed is another

Akira
Castle of Cagliostro
Ghost in the Shell
Evangelion
These are all on netflix and are good for western audiences watching their first anime

the disappearance of haruhi suzumiya, but you should watch the series first

Akira is very pretty, but the characters and story makes it not worth it. People really need to give that disclaimer when recommending that piece of shit.

Perfect Blue

miyazaki/ghibli movies
satoshi kon movies
angels egg

Old school, but a great movie

Kino

garbage lmao. only Yea Forums would think this repetitive movie is good

My friend totoro

Who cares what is approved by a shitty board on a shitty website?

Have kids

King of pigs

Wholeheartedly agree. Tetsuo and kanedas relationship is extremely weak and by the end it's so emotional and forced I thought I missed some kind of supplemental anime I was supposed to watch beforehand

it basically cracked the western market for anime. This website would likely not exist without it

The Japanese voice acting for Kun is so bad in this film. It's like hearing a dyke trying to do a falsetto, totally not how a kid that age would sound like.

pom poko is kino

The only thing not mentioned that I would suggest is
In This Corner of the World (2016)
It's slice of life but it's very moving, set around the bombing of Hiroshima.

starts well, ends boring. all his films are like that.

This is getting re-released with 20 minutes extra

Boku no Pico

The Secret World of Arrietty
it's awesome. speaking as a kid who grew up reading The Borrowers. as every kid of my generation did, more or less.
