A24 had an amazing start releasing kino after kino. We want their movies to be good.
Remember the early 2000 when indie films had their own, love it or hate it, flavor? Then it became just another fashion statement to capitalize on. (I.e. we need the hipster crowd).

I saw both (I do reviews for a shitty local paper, can't say which)
The first cut is a decent film, the director cut has several major issues.
1. The ratio of good scenes to okay to bad scenes in the first cut is rather good. The maypole dance and the Florence Pugh bits outweigh the shitty parts that remind you that it really just a horror film (like when christian finds the bodies)
The director cut added scenes are mostly meh to bad, so the enjoyment is less.
2. The director cut is so long that it becomes a slog to make it though.
3. The Pacing is slower
4. It gets a bit on the nose in some of the extended bits.
5. It takes too long to get to the compound/hippy commune, which is unfortunate.
TL:DR
The director cut takes a reasonably lean movie and screws up the pacing and becomes too damn long with scenes that are not great.
