I agree but I would argue the military has done nothing to fight for my rights in my lifetime. Occupying Iraq and Afghanistan is 99% less relevant to protecting my rights than things like the War on Drugs or mass surveillance

We have hundreds of military bases in nearly every country on the planet. Our military budget has basically allowed the EU, Japan, and others to not have a military budget up until the last five years.
It’s what was practical and profitable for us.
