I hate war movies. Seen a few, GI Jane, Inglorious Basterds, Rambo 2, Tropic Thunder, Starship Troopers. The drama wasn't satisfying and the comedy was so fucking obvious it must have been written for children. The only time I felt something was in Starship Troopers when his girlfriend was cucking him.

This year i watched The Thin Red Line first and then I watched Saving Private Ryan the next day so i could compare the two. Saving Private Ryan is awful in comparison. It is incredibly corny/cheesey and horribly written. However The Thin Red Line is a beautiful masterpiece that will stand the test of time

Oldfag here. Watched it in the theater. Insane D-day invasion experience. I'll never forget the bullets and their sounds. That was the best part for me, the rest was Spielberg bullshit (e.g. helmet off then shot, missing limb montage, matt damon crying with his knees).
