A fairly good world and power system that started at its peak and degraded with each arc, climbing up again at the pain Arc and crashing down. At its best it is the best of the mainstream shonen but at its lowest it is some of the worst the genre has to offer.

It's just so bad in hindsight. Naruto as a random orphan "gifted" with the nine tails is such a better story than him being the son of the Fourth Hokage. Honestly this seems like a recurring theme in anime. They can't actually write a legitimate underdog, every protagonist has to be the super-special son of someone super-special. Is this just a cultural thing? Japan was a monarchy with a powerful nobility running the show until we nuked them twice, is the anime "every major character is noble" trope just a residual attitude that we failed to bomb out of them?

Reminder that the proper way to deal with Uchiha is to fuck them. Tobirama admits that they are a clan of love, they just react equally negatively if spurred or tragedy occurs. Thus, the correct way is to constantly show them love and dick them into submission. The evil Uchiha are the ones who failed to receive proper sexual intercourse. Madara failed to get Hashirama's wood. Obito failed to get Rin. In all those cases, the absence of sex is what caused it. The reason Kishimoto killed off neji was because he was one of the consistently most popular leaf village side characters and he needed to kill off a fan favorite character to add "stakes" to the story. He wrote an entire wold war where none of the good guys died, his editors probably intervened

Say what you will about Naruto. It is childish and stupid and definitely got shittier as it went. But it did one thing really well which was world-building. All of the most popular franchises are also based in very unique and creative worlds. Star wars, DBZ, Naruto, Harry Potter, etc. The world is almost always more interesting than the story in these cases. Also the characters were unique and interesting. It's hard to beat that feeling as kid when you see two bad ass characters step up to fight each other.

This new anime My Hero Academia, is really just a shitty knockoff of Naruto. It has all the same elements only instead of a novel it feels more like a quotation.

This was never a thing for Naruto himself. He was always about muh nakama and power in unity and inspiring people.

In the Land of the Waves, what resolved the conflict? Naruto's words were able to reach Zabuza who was convinced to betray Gato and kill him. Even afterwards, Gato's men were armed and can cause trouble but Naruto's actions inspiring Inari enabled him to rally the entire town to chase those men out. Now those men would think twice before attacking Inari's people after this story arc because they've grown a massive pair of balls and now are proven willing to fight back. This wasn't hard work that solved the problem. It was individual cases of Talk no Jutsu and inspiring little kids leading to a domino effect of motivated adults who altogether team up to solve the problem. It's a combination of inspiring others and becoming strong through unity. It's present elsewhere too. Hinata was inspired by Naruto's ability to never give up and fell for him, becoming one of his greatest supporters. Shadow Clones are the epitome of doing more as a group than a single person can. Naruto was always muh friendship inspiring people and uniting to achieve greater goals than what can be done alone. This was all before that Six Sages' son Asura who was explicitly said to have gotten success through the help of others.

But the nukes were just for razzle dazzle effect. They actually did nothing. The last fight in the series had the biggest, most devastating chakra mechs shooting the largest nukes ever and lightning strikes and shit, and how does it end? Two 17 year olds hit each other with basically their fists, enhanced by small-scale techniques they learned 500 episodes earlier. No planet-scarring explosion, just an arm-severing hit. The DBZ blasts in Naruto were basically useless, whereas in DBZ fights actually end when one guy's beam overpowers the other, and then it cuts to a wide shot of the planet and you see the beam is visible from space.

I can appreciate it as a modern take on classical Japanese epics in he it takes the shonen formula and applies the adult themes found within a lot of Japanese history / mythology but after awhile it kind of suffers from the weight of its own success. It still hits on a lot of interesting topics

Kakashi, maybe, but then kakashi was stricken by acute senses of grief from his long life in warfare and would be of little emotional value to an orphan

He basically gave permission for someone else to write the series and it's pretty creatively bankrupt so far. There were a few good parts, like how they tried to investigate the question in the Blood Mist Village episodes whether the newest generation would uphold the new ideals set by their parents or if they would become reactionaries and fall prey to internal strife and politics again so that they could follow traditional lives as soldiers.

i don't think kishimoto wrote it as technology having developed differently, but in the beginning just didn't have all the world building planned out, so we get inconsistencies like radio communication and television but no cars or telephones.

The man fought against the Uchiha for HIS CLAN. His father and clan outright hated them. But Tobirama didn't get in the way of Uchiha-Senjews forming the leaf. Also didn't hold any lingering hate for the Uchihas who killed his own brothers, even after Madara later betrayed his older brother, and tried to harm the village.

He took time to study and understand them as people. Understood their love and edginess was part of their biological nature and accepted their strengths and faults. As Hokage, he could have took them out or discriminated against them like what happened under the 3rd. It wouldn't be surprising given his personal history and Black Zetsu manipulating them behind the scenes. Yet no such things happened under Tobirama's reign. He tried his best to make them useful and part of the village. Logically assigning them to jobs they could excel at, trusting them with police authority, and even gave them prime lands to live in. He even took in an Uchiha as his pupil, raised him right, and died protecting him. That is not the action of a RACIST.

Black Zetsu and Madara were manipulating war between Uchiha and Senju, but there was no war between them during that time. Only wars against other nations. It was one of the few times in history WITHOUT between Uchiha and Senju.

When it first came out, my brother and I were absolutely hooked, but just before the first Chunin exams or something they fight this ice mirror ninja chick.. and they dragged this fight out for what felt like two months. Every week my brother and I would tune into Naruto and hope that this would be the day they beat the ice mirrors, they would figure it out and move on. Nope, another episode of "it's THAT jutsu, it reminds me of this time when..." and flashbacks and more discussing of various techniques without actually showing anything. Dropped it. Came back a few weeks later to catch the exams. Rock Lee vs Gara is like the most hype shit ever, and Naruto vs those transforming dogmen, can't recall much other fights but it was pretty cool. I didn't continue watching much after that though. Anime series tend to have waaaaaay too much filler and just scenes of characters stills with moving mouths.

I have been reading the Once Piece manga and I think it's fantastic, it has some mediocre parts but generally I have completely fallen for the Strawhat crew, what an awesome gang, I like them all. Has anyone here read the Naruto manga? I wonder if the pacing would be better than on TV.

The manga is much better for pacing. Not only does the anime have to pad for time with filler episodes, but even non-filler episodes (especially at the beginning) only covered a relatively small amount of the manga, so they had to drag out everything to make it fill an episode.
