Sorry bros its not good. I only looked at the critic reviews and the trailer and thought it would be decent. Watched the damn thing with 5 of my friends and everyone disliked it. The cinematography and music was pretty good at times but not even they could save the film. Man what a disappointment, dont make my mistake dodge the hell out of it.
Ad Astra Sucks
comparing it to apocalypse now is the overstatement of the fucking brahma year.

the only mistake i'll avoid is being born half as retarded as you and choosing to stay alive.

Cringe
i was thinking it would be a cool dynamic if kurtz was the main's father, but by the time i got half way through i had completely lost hope of the movie redeeming itself
based
i was the one who convinced them all to see it and felt like such a fool when it blew, whatever i got them to see under the silver lake and they enjoyed that so im batting 500
As based a post as i ever did saw
I can't tell if you're lying if you've seen it or not. I haven't seen it myself but it sounds like you already made your mind up before seeing it
So what didn't you like about it?
Saw the movie yetserday. Your taste is accepted of course. It was one of the best scifi movies of the decade. This does not say much, because most movies were garbage, but it's a wonderful and beautiful movie (only 80-100 million budget) and Brad Pitt nailed it with his simplistic acting. Great movie. You can name me shill if you want, not bothered.
Fucking shill faggot
Not based.
holy shill
>simplistic acting
nice way of saying he just can't be bothered to actually fucking act for once
How the fuck can you be disappointed in this movie? It is literally the exact thing anyone should've expected when hearing "scifi movie made by James Gray".
You suck
I could tell by the trailer it was going to be bad
He was actually great in that role. Slowly cracking up. You could see the emotions bubble underneath.
Most people don't know who he is. This is my second favourite from him that i have seen. Really good film.
This film is what interstellar should've been if it wasn't obsessed with toxic masculinity of glorifying space travel and Messiah complex. It reminds us what the important things in life are and why space exploration is a display mens deluded arrogance.
Would've been great without the unnecessary internal narration. Did they just add that in after the test audiences were confused why Brad Pitt is not cracking jokes like Starlord or something? Seriously what the fuck was the point? He just kept explaining his emotional state that was already obvious from the scenes unfolding.
But still a really good movie, and if you're a non-capeshit scifi fan you gotta take anything you get these days.
Mmmm ... A man who is on the rescue mission of his father, coming out of his admirer’s shadow. I found it very profound premise, tho. It needs to have more kick on the drive of its story. I had a bit of problems with usage of the color hues cuz I only was able to find that warm ones are something holy oppositing to the cold ones are show the realistic aspects of its mission. There are only two writers have gotten credited on this project. I would’ve have more different type writers to take crack at it, for just seeing what comes out. This isn’t that bad after all, tho.
>You could see the emotions bubble underneath.
saw another shill say this line.
sure buddy
>comparing it to apocalypse now is the overstatement of the fucking brahma year.
Who said THAT !?!?!?
Mmmm ... I would describe it as “Over all Malick meets ‘Solaris’ “.
>slow paced, atmospheric space exploration kino
>interrupted in the middle by a 5 minute scene of killer space baboons
What did James Gray mean by this?
look at this shill
But why space baboons though
Kek. This one is big profile art house gig that ain’t got any Alien coming out & sings lullaby. They gotta think how it can be sold Y’know ???
Explain why you didn't like it or shut up
Just got back from seeing the film
cinematography was great, acting was great.
The problem was the writing, it was quite poor. Many things had no payoff. It just kinda flatlines. The film is ok-good... its a shame cause with some simply writing changes/plot fixes it could have been a really great film.
Also. why even bother casting Liv Tyler?
Without "toxic masculinity", this movie would be Interstellar. I bet you were angry that there weren't any strong female character a la Jesscia Chastain to save Roy from his masculinity. Get the fuck out of here, this movie isn't for nu-males.
This is gonna be the next 2049, some worthwhile back and forth discussion while it's out in cinemas, and then once the torrent is out and all the basement dweller incels who were afraid to go to the cinema will get to watch it too it will suddenly be hailed as the greatest "kino" of the decade, because of "great cinematography" (=vivid colors) and "epic feels" (=guy is emotionally withdrawn, just like me!)
this but unironically
Just making kino
I think this film has more problems than BR 2049 but i liked it more.
The literal thene of this movie is getting back to his wife who saves him from the similar fate of his autistic toxically masculine father unlike interstellar where the white man saves the world and is even behind the women's invention and unlike interstellar this puts deluded space fags in their place.
It's an awful awful awful movie.
He doesn't get back to his wife you little bitch, he gets back to humanity, and his father's autistic obsession isn't related to masculinity, he had hubris and women can have it too. Roy finally lets his obsession with his father go, he doesn't give up masculinity. Unlike Interstellar where the genius scientist had to be a wamen, and the male hero arrives in the future created by a woman and there's nnothing for him there, that's why he immediately dashes off to another planet.
>He doesn't get back to his wife you little bitch, he gets back to humanity, and his father's autistic obsession isn't related to masculinity, he had hubris and women can have it too
Nope he goes back to his wife that's the theme. It's about having better relationships with your family.

>"In retrospect, I look back on our early conversations--James and I--and what we were really digging at, without labeling it so much, was this definition of masculinity," Pitt explained.
>"Having grown up in an era where we were taught to be strong, not show weakness, don't be disrespected, and so on and so forth, there's certainly value in that as far as entering into the world and holding your own, but there's also a barrier that's created with this kind of embracing of the self, because you're denying, to a sense, those pains or the things [that make] you feel shame, whether real or imagined, the regrets in one's life."
>Unlike Interstellar where the genius scientist had to be a wamen, and the male hero arrives in the future created by a woman and there's nnothing for him there
And it's the white male that gives the solution cringe. Basically saying women cannot succeed without a man's help.
They got to Brad Pitt too? Wtf?
fucking magnets how do they work
They added his wife in the reshoots so it wasn't even intended to mention her. You can see during his journey that solitude is dreading on him, and when he gets out of the shuttle, he's ahppy when the guy who opend the hatch lends his hand.
One can only judge the finished product, not what ifs. Maybe James Gray should've held on to his vision and not changed his mind and it's not even a bad thing. Smashing toxic masculinity should be lauded.
>because you're denying, to a sense, those pains or the things [that make] you feel shame, whether real or imagined, the regrets in one's life."
Eh, I disagree. That's exactly WHY rigid masculinity is important to have. Women can preoccupy themselves with entertainment, objects, chit chatting with other women. But men require more, and you need that masculinity to acquire it. If you let yourself succumb to regret and the absolute horror show and emptiness that encompasses existence, it becomes too much to take. The meaningless of it all is only bearable for men if you delude yourself into maintaining a strong frame.
Note that this doesn't apply to soibois because they have obviously gone the route that women decided to take which is to preoccupy themselves with "things". They won't go on to do anything else but create more "things".
Studio forced him to change the ending. Who knows whether he added the wife or studio said that he has to do it.
Even in the final product the wife is only part of his regrets, he clearly expressed that he thought he wanted to be alone but realized he needed people, not just his wife. If you actually believe this film is smashing the patriarchy, you should read the reviews from SJW freaks.
