Personally, I kind of liked it in an odd sort of way. When Batman appeared, you knew that you were fucked as opposed to it being just some sort of non-interactive third-person shooter.

Burton’s Batman was the Golden Age version. Where Batman was mysterious and kind of a bogeyman. The less is more approach worked.
