The sad thing is Waitress actually like that they are paid shit because with tips they make bank depending on where they work. My friend worked at a semi fancy place and would make 300 dollars most of it tax free in a 8 hour shift.

I once had a terrible waitress who took forever to take my order and once the food was dropped off never came back, the place was almost empty and plenty of wait staff. On the self checkout I didn't leave a tip and on the printed receipt I left a single penny. Well, a concierge does a lot more than just hail cabs. They'll take care of your luggage before and after check in so you don't have to lug it around or watch it constantly, they'll find and book you restaurants and spas, tell you where the good bars are, help you out if you have some kind of special needs or want to put together something special (like they'll arrange flowers and balloons and wine to be there in your room for when you get back with your girl), and so on. In places where you can't easily get a taxi, yes, they can easily find you a taxi, but if there's a ton of taxis already out front, there's no point in using their service for that.
