The old one is great, albeit difficult at times to watch.
I couldn't complete the new (1997) one. It made me feel too goddamn gross.
Lolita was written as a jab at what Hollywood did to little girl actresses. The author seemed to know about what was happening to girls like Shirley Temple behind closed studio doors, and this book was meant to shed light on that. Trouble is, people seemed to miss his point that taking sexual advantage of little girls, no matter the circumstances, is fucking evil and should be punished. Instead, people just freaked out and wanted to deny it ever happened.
