Why can't anyone else do a strong female protaganist correctly?

protagonist* FUCK

Because they're too afraid to give female protagonists any interesting flaws or weaknesses, due to social pressure and perceived 'toxic' wrong think. Woman are flawless, damnit!

Chicks can be insanely brave and heroic irl when their kid's in danger - especially when their kids are little. Maternal instinct kicks in or some shit. In Aliens Ripley's traumatised for most of the movie and only becomes a badass when her surrogate daughter who she's bonded with, over also being traumatised by Aliens, gets captured.

Other female led action films try to turn chicks into standard military badasses and it doesn't fucking work. In Aliens her maternal instincts are kicking in and she's overcoming her fears from the experiences in the first movie.

What do you mean "anyone else"? The Alien series specifically lends itself to having a protagonist like Ellen Ripley because unlike other, more conventional Adventure serials like Star Wars or basically anything to do with superheroes, it has a very proletarian sensibility that focusses on common people, rather than mythical heroes.

In the first movies it was workers, miners, who were facing an incomprehensible cosmic horror, in the second movie it was soldiers, a group of soldiers, for that matter, that even from a modern perspective was admirably egalitarian, in the third one it was prisoners. None of them were idealised characters in any way, they weren't great and heroic or inspirational, they were flawed people in over their head.

In a series like Star Wars or the MCU a character like Ripley would stick out like a sore thumb because these stories aren't about people like her. The closest Star Wars ever did to that kind of story was Rogue One, which also just happens to be the best one in a long time. But the series is too tied to that mythological pathos to fully embrace a inherently proletarian, "profane" character like Ripley.

Because hacks don't know how to write. The only way they can convey it is by forcing it down your throat. They have to do it at the expense of the other characters. You can't just have a great female or minority character nowadays. No, now you have to make sure their badassitude is unquestionable by having them belittle and emasculate men/white characters. We can't give them meaningful flaws so that they come off like normal people, so they end up coming off as forced memes and vehicles to push an agenda. All of this detracts from your desire to immerse yourself in another world by introducing problems from our world, ultimately ruining your attempts to enjoy escapism.

This. I am honestly struggling to name a movie with a female protagonist, not a walking political agenda, but an actual character who just happens to be female.

Point: missed.
GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER

Because James Cameron got fucked over hard by FOX with Alien vs. Predator, Requiem and the subsequent sequels to the quasi-prequels Prometheus and Alien Covenant. Honestly I'm happy as fuck to hear rumors that Disney might be revamping the entire series. Sick of all the same old shit every time. Get Ridley out of this...

The average Hollywood writer isn't concerned with what makes a good story. They're concerned with what kind of script they can sell because they have to, like, make money to have food.

Most studios buying these scripts think a strong female character is just a woman doing things men do. You know, because they're run by fucking idiots (businessmen). This is why every time a "strong" female character shows up in movies, it's just a male character with a pussy.

Agree on everything, Disney part aside.
Let the fucking series die.
Disney will just turn it into a mockery of itself.

not so fast

Because I said so

So..... YOU are the enemy!

I love Tapping
We're talking about recent years, tho

because some things, when presented in media are not able to just be taken as is since they are hot-button symbol or whatever. Like it means too much to too many people rather than just being a thing - for example you can't have a blonde couple. you know a couple in the world might just happen to be blonde but in the media it screams racial purity genocide supremacy etc. so you have to make sure one of them has dark hair. because of a similar schema,
>an actual character who just happens to be female.
is literally impossible. so you can hardly blame them for not doing it often

Tarantula made one kino fem protagonist as well.
The majority only care for forced divericty. If a movie protagonist is an empowered woman and the white males are brainless jocks, the movie is good for all they care

He just ripped off Thriller: A Cruel Picture and a handful of Asian movies.

It was written as a man before they decided on the actor. That's why there's none of the silly feminist bullshit attached to the character.

No maternal or protective qualities.
Even the Alien Queen had those traits, actually willing to let Ripley pass through its egg chamber to protect the unborn spawn(before one egg reacted and threw everything into chaos) and went berserk once Ripley lashed out and started torching/blasting everything.

God, she is hot

Because they try to create men. Only good female characters are ones that follow certain roles(a protective mother or shameless whore). Women portrayed has stoic badasses never work
