The reapers write the entire setting into a massive corner. They fuck up all the more interesting aspects by being the most relevant thing in existence. A film MUST spend the majority of the runtime devoted to how completely fucked the Milky Way races because there isn't enough screentime to have fun doing other things...and then fuck it all up by having some sort of resolution by the end of it.
Best option I got is to introduce the Crucible in the first film and set most of ME2 to building it, retcon 80% of Mass Effect 3's "story" and make the Leviathans more central to the plot otherwise it's just going to shit the bed in the last act like last time.
