I rewatched Episode 7 today. I have to say its not as bad as Yea Forums makes it out to be. Other than Rey's mary sue mechanical and flight skills and the star base killer of course. The first 45 mins felt like a real good star wars movie.
Its probably a 7.5/10 star wars movie overall. A perfectly acceptable reboot. Han Solo was great in the film and his death was fantastic.
Rey was fine as a new character and she could go in a variety of different directions. Snoke was the new force villian and Kylo was being set up for redemption.
How they managed to completely fuck up episode 8 is beyond me. It's complete garbage.
Hopefully JJ can save episode 9. But the emperor coming back seems like horrible idea with drastic consequences to the star wars story and universe / lore in general.

Disney did greatly underestimate the number of Star Wars fans out there that hated the OT characters and wanted to see the separated, torn down, the actors humiliated, then killed off. I think it would have seemed a lot more natural if they had included a scene of Anakin hesitantly dueling his first Jedi at the Temple, but with Sheev goading him on inside his mind until he gives in to the dark side and gets a surge of power from it. I think (or at least hope,) Disney learned their lesson from their clusterfuck of a sequel trilogy & their failed theme park, and now they just want the third movie over and done with so that they can restructure everything with a fresh, new, serious start through their upcoming Disney + shows and their game deals with EA.
