Yep. A thousand times this. I've tried to binge-watch Family Guy a couple of times and seeing the same sort of gags happening over and over is seriously jarring.

The jokes come thick and fast so even if most of them aren't funny it doesn't matter, and the show is fully aware it's trash so it's not cringey and full of itself like south park or rick and morty. I used to watch it often when I was under 18 and wanted to switch my brain off.

the jokes are mostly miss, rarely hit. But they're coming at you so fast it barely matters.

pre-cancellation and the 1-2 seasons post cancellation are best.

I lowkey think people who are "too smart" for this and that are insecure about their intelligence and don't want to compromise their social standing by watching a "dumb guy" show so they instead opt for being miserable as they spend their time listening to a monotonous British documentary voice talk about an obscure complicated issue in the world that they don't really quite understand but have already grabbed a few quotes they're going to throw around at random when they perceive someone questioning their intelligence.

I've probably watched every single episode of both family guy and the simpsons since dad only let me play video games an hour a day so I spent most evenings watching reruns of american comedy shows

It's good for a cheap laugh and some of the skits are funny as fuck, I don't care about the plot or the characters in any way at all.

Way to watch it. Me and my white stoner buddies back in the day would watch Family Guy all day while we were dealing out of this shitty basement my buddy had. We'd sometimes get random booty calls and hot chicks stop by and we'd fuck them in the other room and stuff, good times.

Captain buzzword there conflated reductionist hacks with self-aware comedy writers. They're simply leaning more into what makes their characters to avoid losing their head up their own ass as they make some pretty edgy jokes. Without any self-awreness they would just be fedora tippers the TV show on Fox.

always has at least one genuine laugh which is more that can be said for most comedy shows

First 2 or 3 seasons were hilarious, at or near the top of the list of funniest animated shows ever. Then it got worse and worse, although it is still clever at times and tolerable in small doses - but obviously nowhere near what it used to be.
