I think it's because Yea Forums as a whole is often counter-culture. During the Bush administration he was liked as he was seen as cool satire of the republicans. When Obama was in office, Colbert wouldn't seriously go after him, and that started to turn people here off the show. Then he dropped the satire and became just another late night talk show host who has nothing to stand out from the rest of them, and that's why he's irrelevant on Yea Forums today.

I stopped when he started breaking character because he wasn't really that funny or interesting outside of it. The man hasn't had an original routine in his life; the whole persona was a carbon copy of the character he voice acted on Harvey Birdman and the structure of The Colbert Report was an offshoot of The Daily Show and completely copied the structure with help from Stewart.

He had a great voice with good delivery and timing and most of his script was well written when he is in character. Out of character, he just doesn't have good jokes. I don't recall laughing at anything he's done without the persona and this is coming from someone who generally gives laughs to almost every comedian.
