It isn't really even the cops where I live, it's just that business owners will call if you're sleeping in your car in say a walmart parking lot, or if you've found a little out of the way place to park and sleep for the night some asshole walking by with his dogs will call the cops on you. I had to sleep for a half hour/hour at a time and keep moving, like a great white shark. Homeless shelters are even worse though. I've been beaten up, I've been stabbed. if you had strong communities with a certain amount of cultural cohesion where mutual interests overlapped, then you could rely on private charity and neighbors helping neighbors in hard times. it is the best possible "welfare system" because it introduces the element of shame, and the possibility of being cast out and destitute if you consistently fuck people over, because they wont help you anymore. strong communities form when people have to rely on each other on a personal level, and some faceless bureaucracy that gives them "free money" and the individual never has to answer to anyone ruins people and communities. other social problems like single mothers were created because the government disincentivizes marriage and community cohesion through all it's welfare programs. now we are stuck with shit communities (because the positive incentives are gone), and shit individual lives (because the government incentivizes bad choices).
to sum it. get married before having kids and have good standing in your community, which will support you in hard times. once the government decided it would be good to replace that community, we get single moms, broken families, drug abuse, depression, weak communities, distrust, etc..because the incentives to be a functioning member of society are stripped away if you are paid to be a piece of shit.
If we give everyone a stipend and lose all the entry level automatable jobs then no one can build working experience to get a non automated job unless they get high levels of education which they cannot afford on a stipend.

I've been doing it for the past year and a half. I'm living inside 08' Highlander. I would suggest getting an SUV over anything else simply because it blends into the suburb environment so well. I've also blacked out all the windows with black plastic bag so no one can peek inside. I have a regular 9-5 job, but I stay in a starbucks and go the gym (for shower) until night, so I only use the car for sleep. It sucked for the first 2 months, it's incredibly isolating and makes you feel an outcast. Once you get past that initial hump, it's great - you have freedom to go anywhere, aren't tied to one spot at all, and can pretty much fuck off anywhere you want.

It was the most depressing time I've ever had, I sat in my car and cried, and I slept for 12 hours a day because you couldn't get comfortable, so you'd wake up in the middle of the night and have nothing to do. And there's no way to get out of it. Maybe I needed time to adjust but I couldn't even leave my car because I thought someone might figure me out and there was a lot of anxiety. If you're more mentally stable though you might be able to do it, just don't trap yourself. Maybe try it for a week while you still have a lease.

The whole point of making the van look like a goods delivery can, is that vans for contractors like carpenters and electricians might have expensive tools in them, but movers might just have shitty straps and blankets in the back of their van.

You use your gym locker to store whatever clothes you need to hang (typically just a work uniform) after you do laundry.
