I find it hilarious that a lot of criticism of Trump by the media is he doesn't communicate the established way i.e. make announcements via the media, giving them revenue, instead he talks directly to the electorate and they can see what he said word for word, this actually enrages them

What's always amazed me is how despite there being over 300 million people in the U.S. shows are considered successful when they have a few millions viewers, why is the bar set so low? 4 million viewers in a country of 327 million people doesn't seem like good numbers

Not every one of those 327 million people will be watching individually, it may look at an average family being 4-5 people, all watching on one TV and assume that way. Therefore if there's 4-5 million people watching, it is theoretically 20 million+ people watching the show (close to 8% of the population). Also SNL is typically on cable or PayTV which a lot of people may not have access to, or it may not be counting incidents where people may watch the show via other means such as online streams/pirated media. There would be few if any regular shows that are going to get a majority of a nation watching, as not all genres interest everyone, though some things like sports etc. are still big in the U.S..
