With enough of this kind of signaling, you can infuriate and infatuate enough people on twitter to cause a controversy, which causes some blog posts, some reddit threads, etc. Pretty soon, consuming your product is no longer giving money and time to a billion dollar corporation, but an act of social rebellion to create a better world. "I fought racism, by buying a ticket to black panther TWICE fuck yeah upvotes plz!", etc.

It has the added benefit of defanging any and all criticism that your product might receive. Anyone who doesn't like Netflix's The Witcher will be branded a racist. Don't like Captain Marvel? Hate women. Don't like nuWars? Incel. And on it goes. Very little of this stuff is organic now.
