I was still a kid but i really noticed how garbage barting over was its season 14 episode 11. It had no soul and just felt like another celerity cameo. Thats when it really hit me each week is just another celebrity cameo. The simpsons dont grow as characters they dont improve they are forever stuck doing the same routine.

The simpsons could of been awesome where they grow up. Things change over time for better and for worse. You can only do the same joke so many times before it becomes stale.

writing also becomes easier when characters grow up since you can tackle more relatable issues

Just glancing at the episode lists now, I'd say the early 10's seasons weren't that bad, but season 14 is where it's really just dead in the water. That's when I completely gave up watching new episodes, if I remember.

I'm really not sure. I have recently undertaken a rewatch of some episodes and some of the newer ones definitely aren't as bad as some people make them out to be.
some of the older ones really aren't as good as people remember them to be.

I didn't have many role models, but I did have The Simpsons growing up. Every week I would watch The Simpsons, recording each episode on my parents' VHS machine, then rewatch every episode during the summer. Eventually I enlisted in the Marine Corps and got sent to Iraq. Again, all I had was The Simpsons, seeing as how I had nothing waiting for me back home. My motivation to see the end of my tour alive was knowing that when I got back to the States I could look forward to seeing what kind of hijinks Homer and his family would be up to next. And I loved discussing this show on Yea Forums, one of the coolest places on the internet. Well, no more. I can't take this obnoxious spam for a second longer, I'm gone.

Well, Season 1's kind of wonky. I think everyone agrees with that.

everyone says season 1 of the simpsons is bad, but i really like it. i like it as much as the classic seasons. Its different, but different in a good way. Its a lot more experimental and not as formulaic as season 2 through 9

The writing staff and showrunners for the first twelve years were pretty fluid, relatively young, and well-qualified (Harvard, but wrote for the Lampoon).

After Season 12, Al Jean took over and its just been a stagnant group of aging left-wing Jewish boomers writing for the show ever since. Some of them even did good work in the early seasons, but now they're pushing 60, have lived life on autopilot for twenty years, and have no sense of humor left.
