Its quite impossible his work is simply unadaptable

It was a different time.

Would he have posted on Yea Forums?

In this era. And not just because of the nigger guy thing. Faithful adaptations of his stuff would be "boring" & flop, hard.

Are dogs niggers?

he relies a little to heavily on, "I can't bear to describe the monstrosity that i witnessed"
So no one know what half the monsters look liked, and the others are derpy .
I have no idea what there doing for color of madness.

Seriously or are you being stupid to me right now? This man said the nigger word and you think that should be on my tv?

Attached: 1568477532082.jpg (1278x993, 121K)

No, the only truly hard ones would be his dreamscapes. Everything else could be done, and done well.

It is perfectly adaptable, if you’re not a brainlet. True Detective did it to some degree.

The majority of his work has no dialogue.

>True Detective did it to some degree.
No it didn't

The problem is that nobody with a proper budget and talent has produced an adaptation that resembles any of his work. Dunwich Horror was the best one.

Not necessarily. A lot of his work can translate fine. People are obsessed with the idea of "unknowable horror", which isn't even a feature of all of his work.
youtu.be/y7jp1CT1h6c

ya cause the monsters invisible.

Depends.

Anytime he purposefully describes something as "indescribable" is certain not able to be adapted into a visual format. The whole point is that you will go insane trying to rationally explain what you are seeing, which is why it sticks in your mind more than simply describing an ugly monster's every detail.

Lovecraft was a master at weird fiction because he truly understood what made things universallg unsettling/scary.

Dexter Ward would be a kino movie

They're not

Junji ito - uzumaki is the best visual representation of a lovecraft inspired piece of media.

There's a film called The Resurrected that was based on Dexter Ward. Haven't seen it.

His work is literally just jumpscares and hating niggers. Cinema evolved past that.

If someone could get a faithful adaptation made properly this is what I want to see most

my first kiss was with a girl who looked like Lovecraft but cuter

It blows

It's already been done (kinda)

>hero
He's an absolute hack. Read his script for At the Mountains of Madness and find out why.

While I would be interested in a Del Toro adaptation he's too visually minded to do a "proper" adaptation. The unimaginable horrors stuff is just a metaphor for being part of a system that is both malevolent towards you and you're speck of dust within.

I'd rather he just make more stuff like Crimson Peak, gothic horror is more his jam than weird fiction.

Attached: hp-lovecraft-cat-name_o_7252426 (1).jpg (960x528, 147K)

The script would change before the production would begin, they wouldn't use the one that is floating around.

his visual focus would be great for At the Mountains of Madness with the vast ice landscapes and giant ancient cities

That was a normal cat name for the time. Like 80% of black cats and dogs at the time were named Nigger, Spook, Blacky, Jiggaboo or some other clearly racist thing.

Fucking niggers, man. So unspeakable.

Fucking hate thisstupid meme. He didn't name the cat. He owned it when he was a kid.

>The script would change before the production would begin
Yeah, it'd probably end up being even worse.

youtu.be/hWxBTGKHBYc
Bluworm does my favourite Lovecraft adaptations. The super low budget and fake looking nature of them seems to capture the weird vibe of Lovecraft better than anything else.

Makes sense why it's a meme. If you're a twitter SJW you push it because you get to tell people how not racist you are. If you're an edgy zoomer you push it because it's an excuse to say nigger.

AAAAAAAAA A MOLLUSK HELP MEEEEEEEEE I’M GOING CRAZYYYYYY
Why would anybody any want to adapt his shit?

Shadow Over Innsmouth is perfect for movie adaption
Dagon already did it but I'd like to see a proper American adaption

>Shadow Over Innsmouth is perfect for movie adaption
Technically yes but people almost always go too far with the residents and make them look like actual obvious monsters. The janky call of cthulhu game on the old xbox did them best I think.

Attached: 19893b8a676d955d214811eccc5c124a.jpg (1280x1024, 129K)

>his visual focus would be great for At the Mountains of Madness with the vast ice landscapes and giant ancient cities
And scary penguins

yea
less is better
modern filmmakers usually don't get this
honestly were it a cheap studio that would be for the best as they'd have to do without extensive CGI or makeup

>Shadow Over Innsmouth is perfect for movie adaption
The only way I could see this being made today is by turning the story around and making the Deep Ones the good guys or at least worthy of pity which could be actually interesting

It arguably has a happy ending.

Indeed, I forgot that the protagonist had actually came around to accept his lineage.

>His work is literally just jumpscares and hating niggers.
>Cinema evolved past that.
Heh.

Well, there's different stages. Normally they look like pic related but as time goes by they start becoming more and more fishlike until it's time to just go swimming towards the reef and join the deep ones forever.

The subtext for a lot of Lovecraft is disease, not race

While a lot of people love the "Le Racist" man and the memes associated with it, honestly, it shows why maybe if you're a musician, artist, or some sort of performer where you desire your art to come first, its best to stay out of things that will alienate audiences such as political critique or basically calling a large chunk of your potential readers names.

Unfortunately, you can't adapt any of his shit, because his racism was so prominent that even his contemporaries criticized him for the amount of vitriol he espoused despite it not being a time of politically correctness. If you have colleagues telling you to "chill out bro" in a time when almost everyone is racist, you're doing too much. That aspect of his life in modern times will be a continued distraction and cause too much headache for any one who takes it on.

How the hell can a book have jumpscares

didn't you watch re-animator

Attached: 790999c701ee6b7c1041bbc65c139a0b.jpg (500x750, 52K)

He's retarded, don't try to argue with him.

name 3 of his stories that anyone would actually want to adapt that are racist

It's not the stories that are a problem, its the person. People can't separate the person from the art these days more than ever.

based autist

But he wasn't actually racist he was also about as lefty as they come near the end of his life.

>People can't separate the person from the art these days
You're a bit clueless, aren't you?

Yeah, nah. Read his letters.

no u

>NOOOO MY DOGGO WOOFEER IS SUPERIOR MY PUPPERINO IS THE BEST

You're serious? His racism wasn't even just a literary device or of the modern "non-pc" words are racism variety. He literally argued the inferiority of races and the superiority of Anglos

My great aunt had a cat named Tar Baby, it was pretty funny listening to my family talk about it considering they’re not really racist

Why do black people love to own pit bulls

was that before or after he married a jew?

This
Would recommend it even if you are not a weeb at all

>suddenly ooga booga so scary I can't describe it
>the end, are you scared yet?
Every Lovecraft story ever.

What is the relevance ?

Lovecraft was very inconsistent when it came to his social and political beliefs. He changed his mind many times and even married a Jewish woman.

so the answer is no

why do white people make that :| face?

>t.toxoplasmosis infected

I’m gonna go kill some stray cats now

Unfortunately, these days, "redemption" in this regard doesn't carry much weight.

based. Fuck dogs.

it means “I don’t want to interact with you but I’m also signaling that I’m not a threat” white people understand that niggers and other nonwhites are violent unpredictable savages so its a preemptive measure less the nig think whitey is looking for a fight

He's just one of those racists who make exceptions for Jews. He was still a racist.

more like Lovecat

I don't mind that most of his stories are formulaic, it's the content of them that I like. Also I like how unnecessarily verbose he is. He's just got a really unique style that's fun to read. He does have stories that differ from his usual style as well, and they are really interesting. Like "The Quest Of Iranon" that reads like some old greek myth.

As if I didn't like him enough already.

Lovecraft was a retarded autist despite his genius in literature. He just believed things for no reason. He thought he was british nobility and wanted to fight for the queen in WW1 (he's american). When that failed he signed up for the U.S. army so he could fight on britains behalf. His mom found out and dragged him to the recruiter and explained that he was prone to fits and hysteria so that he would be let go. I digress.
His hatred of other races, even italians and irish, was not completely normal and really was the ravings of an autist such as you see on Yea Forums every day.
but, the moment those kazar milkers found him, he couldnt stand up for what he "believed". He just believed them for no reason, likely because he had met no jews, no italians, no black folk, nothing. He was a sheltered mammas boy up into his 30s until he moved out and met his wife.
His wife, by the way is pretty awesome and the way they talk about love for one another is kind of endearing. She's a helpful soul that saw him as someone who needed her help. She had a heart for that. But she fell in love. He was...well, an autist, but also fell in love with her. She describes his sexual prowess as surprisingly good, yet not very frequent. It's not a hollywood romantic love at all, just two people who wanted to partner up because they cared for each other.

>Between dogs and cats my degree of choice is so great that it would never occur to me to compare the two. I have no active dislike for dogs, any more than I have for monkeys, human beings, negroes, cows, sheep, or pterodactyls; but for the cat I have entertained a particular respect and affection ever since the earliest days of my infancy. In its flawless grace and superior self-sufficiency I have seen a symbol of the perfect beauty and bland impersonality of the universe itself, objectively considered; and in its air of silent mystery there resides for me all the wonder and fascination of the unknown. The dog appeals to cheap and facile emotions; the cat to the deepest founts of imagination and cosmic perception in the human mind. It is no accident that the contemplative Egyptians, together with such later poetic spirits as Poe, Gautier, Baudelaire, and Swinburne, were all sincere worshippers of the supple grimalkin.

Attached: lovecraft.jpg (969x1281, 83K)

That's literally not every Lovecraft story ever though. That's like two Lovecraft stories, maybe.

>Lovecraft was a retarded autist despite his genius in literature. He just believed things for no reason.
I didn't say otherwise.

not every reply is an argument, friend.

I wonder why people want to cancel Lovecraft over racism...

Attached: Capture.png (490x244, 95K)

where can I read Lovecraft's letters? The man is hilarious.

There's books that collect some of them, but they're out of print and cost hundreds of dollars if you find an used copy.

Thing is Lovecraft wrote 100,000 letters, so putting them all together (the ones that still exist at least) would be unfeasible.

Also worth noting is that all those letters were effectively private conversation with people close to him. I wonder how many of these journalists would be fine with all their private correspondence being made public for people to scrutinize

archive.org/details/LovecraftH.P.SelectedLettersIIArkhamHouse1968

kinda weird how we do that. C.S. Lewis and Tolkien have had their letters published too.

Don't cut yourself on that edge bro

It's not worth adapting.

Everyone was racist until a few decades ago. Everyone today will be racist by the standards of next year. That's how it works.

counter-currents.com/2010/09/the-racial-worldview-of-h-p-lovecraft-part-3/

>where can I read Lovecraft's letters? The man is hilarious.

I recommend these two volumes containing letters he sent to the guy who wrote Conan the Barbarian. It's good stuff.

have heard this from people in publishing before in similar terms
only things that are acceptable to the worldview of the publishers windup getting published
there's loads of great writers who have never got published

I really liked the 2005 movie

Holy Mother of Based
It's true, even if you don't dislike Jews in particular you have to recognize that having another people control your culture isn't healthy. If all of your history, myths, news, etc were filtered down to you through a Chinese lens it would be unhealthy too. Even if they aren't hostile they are still alien and their interests aren't the same as yours.

I took leave of my father's decrepit farmhouse in my modest Guatemalan automobile, making reasonable pace across a landscape bereft of anything resembling what I had come to know as modernity. I eventually reached the general store, a flimsy wooden structure that emitted a dark cloud of smoke from a narrow chimney. Two locals sat outside in the midday sun, accomplishing nothing and seemingly content in their doing so. Their bestial stupidity, likely the result of generations of inbreeding and race-mixing, was apparent in both their appearance and vocabulary.

My eyes were immediately drawn towards the words emblazoned above the door. These words perplexed me in such a manner that defy ordinary description. I shall not repeat them here, for I fear that anyone who stumbles upon this tome will meet the same fate as I should they read them.

I have not slept in weeks, as I have tried in increasing desperation to decipher the true meaning of that inscription. I fear that it is pointless. The fate of this city slicker is sealed.

Attached: 1568717095301.jpg (500x476, 50K)

This was Lovecraft's real bag, it wasn't people, it was influences of systems beyond your control.

everyone knew back then and they couldn't outlaw it
>yet

everything you do is filtered through some culture. Saying thats a bad thing is retarded because there's no other way.

From Beyond is perfect

You tell me.

Pretty loose usage of "Lovecraftian"

which is why you want your own culture as lens

>some culture
An OTHER culture, you retard. That is the issue.

Which one do you have a problem with?

Not him, but how's Akira Lovecraftian?

Calling Re-Animator Lovecraftian is honestly a stretch, despite it literally being based on a Lovecraft story. it takes a lot of liberties.

>formerly forest street

If ever you need proof anglos infest this site, just see how many threads about average shit like Lovecraft gets posted daily. Bonus: also remark the contents of the thread and you’re guaranteed to see every single one just revolve around him saying nigger. Is there a more pathetic group of people than anglos? I don’t think so.

I think an adaptation of "At the Mountain of Madness" would be amazing. I don't know what it would take for something like that to happen (budget, people, marketing wise) but if done well it could even calm down the "le tentacles" memes for a while...

Arguably Alien is kind of a loose adaptation

>awaken a bio-engineered life-form that hunts you to death

worse than endless quips from perlman as he dynamites shoggoths and cthulhu throwing a ship at the camera in 3D*?

*actually in the screenplay

Bravo, my friend.

Otherworldly powers transforming humans into freaks of nature and turning their bodies into all consuming entities, incomprehensible beings of pure energy coming to Tokyo out of another dimension. Sure there are other elements in it as well, not just Lovecraftian, but the horror elements are quite strong.
