I always thought there was something to his performance in the Transformers movies that, like much of these movies, was a bit misunderstood. He brought a bit of a subversive edge to that typical "relatable teen hero" archetype. Those movies in general were interesting for taking those Spielberg/Emmerich type blockbuster sensibilities and adding a layer of self aware juvenile sleaze to them that you just can't get away with anymore.
