>In the 12th episode, nerdy neighbor Steve Urkel (Jaleel White) was introduced and intended as a one-time only character. He proved so popular with the audience that he became a recurring character and then a series regular. It wasn’t long before each episode featured an Urkel-focused storyline.
>It’s often been said that some in the cast were not pleased with this shift in focus. JoMarie Payton (portraying matriarch Harriette Winslow) left midway through the last season , and it’s been reported and rumored many times that the Urkel storylines were the reason.
>implying anybody else on this board, besides you and I, has actually seen that show That Urkel shit was out of control
Anthony Bailey
i have watched like 100-150 or more family matters episodes the last 3 months for nostalgia. its actually pretty funny. im not a huge fan of the last few seasons when it became the urkel mad scientist show, but seasons 2-6/7 were actually pretty good
Eli Bell
Show would've failed without him tbqh. I must've seen every episode of Family Matters, and the rest of the TGIF and SNICK lineup through the entirety of the 90s.
>Did I doooo thaaat? vs Bazinga! Which is the greater evil
Jaxon Sullivan
exactly, season 1 had a few good episodes but for the most part is was a boring as fuck mediocre family sitcom.
>jomarie payton leaving the show
yeah she's a fucking cuck. that should would have been cancelled after season 1 or 2 without steve. steve dragged that show NINE YEARS, jaleel white played like 5-6 different characters the entire time as well. i dont think a show has ever been carried by one actor the way jaleel carried family matters
Gabriel Sanchez
Didn't the son get kicked off the show? Or was that Step by Step?
Joshua Collins
no but they had their youngest daughter kicked off the show because her character was absolutely useless and they basically replaced her with steve
Grayson Collins
To this day, I'll never understand why he'd choose Laura over Myra. Myra was clearly superior.
Ayden King
And her story afterwards is wonderful.
Christopher Wright
Never watched this boomer show desu I just know the nigger is like sheldon or some shit
Anthony Bennett
>tune in to watch comfy slice of life show about a black family >get this
I did some ten second research. A guy was kicked off Step by Step because he was a psycho and kicked somebody in the head or something. I made the head thing up but he was a psycho so they dumped him.
Ryder Perry
>that time they had an extra daughter and she just disappeared from the show this shit was weird, comfy theme song though
Julian Scott
>i'm not like the other girls post It's ridiculously popular and famous.
Benjamin Miller
It's not obscure for boomers, but most people here are zoomers.

why is it always the women that leave sitcoms and are never heard from again?
They don't realize sitcoms are last line paydays for two-bit actors, that being on a sitcom will make you uncastable for roles outside of a character actor and they generally overestimate their worth. They honestly think that they will go on to bigger, better things. They do not realize that failing a contractual obligation or being difficult in negotiations will send a signal to other productions that they should pass you over. Loyalty is everything in Hollywood.
Kevin Rivera
>literal black genius who is constantly civilized was a shock to the audience
Really makes you think
Jose Martin
He was just black version of the nerd archetype which will popular in the 80s/early 90s. Keep you /pol/ taint out of this.
Brandon Morales
I always wondered why Waldo was so dumb now I realized he just had normal dindu intelligence while Eddies family were outliers.
Eli Jackson
why is it always women
Lincoln Brown
that's very close to the story of Dr. Smith on Lost in Space Although Irwin Allen let the actor who played Dr. Smith write his own dialog
Myra might have been hotter, but she's also the kind of girl who would cut your penis off during the middle of the night if she thinks you're cheating.
