The ultimate pleb filter
>if you don't enjoy X experimental film then you're a pleb!
Hey guess what buddy? I've actually felt the inside of a vagina with my dick. Have you? No, don't think you have. So what does that make you?
Agreed
Just about every male who was given birth to vaginally had their dick touch the inside of their mother's vagina. Think about that.
>the incel cope
It's more about accidental incest than anything. Cesarean sections are almost worse because it's like your dick is touching an open wound that your mother has.
One of the few movies that I consider to be empty pretentious trash. Malick is a hack.
What was the film about then and what's pretentious about it?
okay normalfag
Thin red line is kino though
might be chad, but he is still factually correct
>malickfags
terrence malick makes joints for plebs to make them feel like they're anything but
it's a patrician filter
based
I'm fascinated by movies involving incest. Like the cement garden and savage grace. Amityville II had some incest scenes too.
it was so unmemorable
So what's wrong with the film
>American ”art”
speaking of which has anyone ever had dreams about fucking their mother? some dream interpreters believe that when you have no one in your life you feel affection for your subconscious substitutes your mother as that person. sometimes it is supposed to represent a fear of loss or closeness with those around you too i was just wondering about that right now
in fact its kind of amazing how many barriers there really are keeping people from committing incest. first there's the obvious genetic deterrence and secondly the fact that when you grow up with someone like your family you are a lot less likely to see them as sexual, and then there are the social taboos that are involved which makes having to break through these psychological, genetic, and social barriers to even do the deed a damn near olympian feat
lmao oedipus ass nigga! worldstar!!! GOT HIS ASS
Honestly if you didn't like The Thin Red Line and The Tree of Life you have no soul. Either that or you completely lack empathy and are a psychopath. Also most people who criticize The Tree of Life don't even understand it. But why the Lacrimosa and creation scene that was pretentious. Because of Book of Job you fucking retards, those scenes are so important in development of several main themes of the film. I'm not claiming that the film is somehow overtly complicated but so many people are out of their depths when trying to criticize it. It's ridiculous.
Nowhere near as disgusting as European art film auteurs like Tarr or Haneke. At least Malick is openly Christian
that's why I find the claims of pretension bizarre, it is very clearly just about Christianity and nothing else, and doesn't pretend to be.
>dude i'm enlightened you just don't get it lmao
Cringe
but it's funny that when it comes to physical contact with family each group has their own set of rules about what's appropriate and what isn't appropriate. Some families think nothing of being naked in front of each other or even sharing bathwater. heck, even some folks who share bathwater would find it inappropriate for families to bathe together but some see it as ok. some families who are very affectionate with each other could still think it's wrong for brothers and sisters to share the same bed. interesting stuff
I didn't say that, it's a matter of fact that like 80% of people who try to criticize have zero idea what they are talking about.
Tarr is great. What's your problem? What directors do you like then?
Reminder that Malick
>graduated from Harvard with highest honors
>was a Rhodes Scholar
>worked on an academic translation of Heidegger's work
>actually knew and worked with Heidegger
>speaks multiple languages
>quit filmmaking to become a philosophy professor in France
There's literally never been a more patrician filmmaker, American or not
ok so who does get to criticize malick? do they have to be devout christians? accomplished film critics? any random person who has read the old testament? or is it just who you personally deem worthy?
while we're on the subject of different standards of family appropriateness it does seem kind of funny how these standards come about. why would it be okay for some families to bathe together and why wouldn't it be for others? Even a son can end up having a different standard of appropriateness than his father. How did these rules originally come about? Where these rules explicitly told or where they implied what was or wasn't okay? Is there an instinctual aspect to it?
I like Bresson, Akerman, Malick, Welles, Ophüls, and Ozu
then how come all his 21st century films are shit?
People are still too attached to standard narrative conventions to understand them
a hell of a lot of it was cultural, you didnt stray from the culture surrounding you because you'd be ostracized, this culture was heavily informed by religion, and had been kind of honed for centuries to at least sort of work despite its many flaws. Now we don't really have culture in that way anymore and you can just go online or move across the city/country/world to find people who agree with whatever random shit pops into your head, no matter how destructive it may be, the feedback loop between social attitudes and their long term, even short term in some ways, consequences has been kind of ruptured.
That is the conservative take on it anyway. The Left would think of this as freedom to express oneself however they want, emancipation from archaic shackles of oppression, boldly discovering new ways of organizing society, etc. you get the picture.
seethe pleb
also forgot to mention isn't it kind of strange that a person can fetishize incest but also find the thought of committing it actually disgusting? odd how the act of incest can make a person get off but also disgust them at the same time. almost like they have no control over what they find sexually stimulating but also have a sort of instinctual revulsion to it.
No. You don't have to be Christian to know about Christianity, it's fine to criticize him even if you don't know about it but at least don't claim that the film is pretentious or that it doesn't make sense just because you can't understand it. If you criticize him without full understanding of the film at least don't argue when you are completely out of your depth. Just say that it wasn't for you and you didn't get it or something like that.
The Turin Horse was obnoxiously nihilistic festival bait. Terrible, boring film. Same with Damnation. Too drab to call turgid and too complacent to look at as a real social critique.
>Akerman
Just why? That 4 hour film of hers was so much worse than Satantango which is 3 hours longer.
They are good. The Tree of Life is even great. I haven't seen The New World but i don't expect it to be bad.
also he lost his brother in his childhood and he lived in a farm
>look at as a real social critique
viewing any film with this is the absolute most gormless thing anyone can do, you fucking liberal arts faggot
And now with the rise of the internet such things like incest can find their own niche in forums and other such sites that cater to that specific interest. Where in that culture something like incest isn't taboo but the norm. Something they openly discuss and share experiences.
All of his films have the same apocalyptic tone, i don't see the problem. He doesn't aim at any sort of social critique according to him. The Turin Horse is probably the best existential horror. Werckmeister Harmonies is his true masterpiece.
All this talk about incest makes me wonder how true it is that people in the south fuck their relatives. Anybody know where the stereotype comes from?
Fucking based
They fuck their cousins, which is pretty common around the world. The sibling thing is just an exaggeration of their cousin-fucking
It is probably slightly higher because sterotypes tend to be somewhat true, but it's nothing like Pakistan or a country like that that has actual birth defect problems because of inbreeding.
I've always figured it came from the fact that rural areas were close knit communities where everyone knows each other. And that with places that have low populations people assume that they must be having relationships with their relatives.
What the fuck is the point of Damnation then? Am I supposed to be entertained or enlightened by depressed people going about tedious lives? It's fucking worthless, trite.
>inb4 but duh pictures look purty
Yeah, monarchies around the world tried to keep their bloodline within the family. Some for political reasons like staying in power and others like the Egyptians believing in their own divinity and that it should not be shared.
based chad telling mallickplebs to get fucked
Watch Werckmeister Harmonies
Stop samefagging
because of this films I now pop chubs around older ladies.
I'm not, but since you're so triggered you must be a mallickpleb and also an incel.
Sure you are not. Fucking nigger.
If any person who dislikes Malick movies was euthanized the world would suddenly become paradise on earth. Prove me wrong.
yeah, you're definitely a virgin.
