I always thought the Xenos throwing themselves at marines when they clearly have the numbers made sense because thats where the acid blood comes into play. Sure you can mow some of them down providing you have guns/ammo but this creates its own problems. every xeno that falls could cover you in acid drake style, burn through a wall/floor effectively making it impossible to hunker down. It would be even worse if you had to fight them off planet because just one dead xeno could likely burn through a ships hull.

Aliens is a fine, well-made lighthearted adventure in the middle of the trilogy, a good setup for the final piece in the trilogy. Aliens isn't the problem.
