Why does everything have to have marvel quips now? Why can't stuff take itself seriously anymore?
Why does everything have to have marvel quips now? Why can't stuff take itself seriously anymore?
what marvel quips, I don't remember any
because brown people need to take their kids to movies to kill time
>*kills Bowers*
>I'd say that was overdue, get it because we're in a library!
>Mullet quip
>Eddie's last fucking words being a yo momma joke
etc
Because they are scared it won't work. Especially in horror. I wish horror was about making scary movies, but all of them now are mostly a "hide and seek" game with the audience. For about 3/4 of a film, you see only bits of a monster and by the end, well you already know you won't have that big scary thrill anymore and they're just about to wrap it up already.
The library joke was kino. Others were cringe.
adult bev is a downgrade
I enjoyed all the gay bashing
>brown
>people
>brown "people" doing anything other than abandoning their spawn
>The library joke was kino
especially with the vomiting
i think it’s because it’s manufactured for teens
yeah henry is cool
I had the unfortunate experience of working concessions during Infinity War and Deadpool 2, and let me tell you, in Arizona it's nothing but packs of spics. Just hordes of them, ordering 120$ of fucking theatre food. Who the fuck knows where they get the money, because I'm sure I saw half of them on my walk to work that very morning mowing the community lawn for 4$ an hour.
this
The internet and "cringe culture" has killed any forms of sincerity among the youth
Everything is masked behind 12 fucking layers of irony and sarcasm in both media and real life which is part of the reason mental illness is so prevalent. There are very few genuine experiences to be had anymore.
This is all traced back to the true number of the beast, 2007
.... I don't see how those reference Marvel..
Cheesy one liners have been in films all the time. Arnoldkino is full of them.
>throws knife at dude pinning him to a wall
"Stick around"
>impales someone with blown pipe gushing steam
"Let off some steam, Bennett"
>arms missile and prepares to fire it from a jet
"You're fired"
s-shut up it's different you zoomer!
>tfw pic related had no marvel quips and took itself 100% seriously
feels good man
Most Arnold movies were deliberately cheesy, marvel-style quips have become forced into shit where it never would have been previously. You wouldn't have had yo momma jokes from dying characters in the original IT TV movie
Also the jokes themselves weren't used to de-escalate situations or ruin tension but to add to an already comedic scene.
I'm so boomer that I'm actually Gen X
>shapeshifting space clown who eats people
>take it seriously
Yeah ok.
>Everything is masked behind 12 fucking layers of irony and sarcasm in both media and real life which is part of the reason mental illness is so prevalent. There are very few genuine experiences to be had anymore.
I don't get this at all. We had jokes and shit when I was younger but now every word out of kids mouths is some kind of meme, reference, or snap back.
I know it's a tale as old as time to think that the next generation after yours is dumb and hopeless but this is such a huge shift towards people barely even communicating. It's a shitshow.
Or maybe it's just that the jokes are not funny, and showing even more how the script is bad?
That's not the same.
Modern marvel quips will have an emotional moment...and then instantly undercut it with a "bazinga"-tier quip so that people in the audience dont have to experience an emotion other than light casual amused giggling.
Predator had the one liners but it also had guys getting fucking flayed by aliens and both were played 100% straight.
>kino
>cringe
see I just don't get the Marvel part. I'm old and remember these kinds of quips everywhere. Shit the James Bond movie Diamonds are Forever, Mr Kidd and Mr Wint, this was 1971, did cheesy 1 liner puns after every kill they did.
This shit has been around since movies had sound I guarantee it.
We're just getting older, buddies. And that's ok.
because only women and man children go to see movies
I can't quite describe it, but I've never felt more disappointment than going to see TFA and on that planet where Poe Dameron is on his knees at the beginning of the movie, As Kylo walks up he says: "So who talks first? You talk first I talk first". It just completely reminds you the state that Hollywood is in currently.
Lol he mad
Okay how about this then.
In the 1990 TV miniseries of It, when Eddie was dying, Richie called him Eddie Spaghetti (in the book it was just "Eds") and Eddie said "Richie please, don't call me that, you know how I..." and then died. But it was a running joke that Eddie hated being called Eds/Eddie Spaghetti and Richie always called him that.
So there was always a quip/joke when Eddie died, even in the book, it's just they changed it into a "Your mom" joke because of the adaptation of Richie's character to be more in line with an 80's child rather than a 50's child he'd make more vulgar jokes, dick, fart, pussy, and your mom jokes. Had they made it take place in the early 90's there'd be some "NOT!" or "PSYKE!" "jokes", I guarantee it.
If there's anything to complain about it's that they made Richie gay, even though it added literally nothing to the film. Richie and Eddie were always close even without any kind of one sided hidden homosexual feelings. Richie liked to pick on Eddie but only because they were good friends, basically like brothers.
>Why can't stuff take itself seriously anymore?
Because you're not their audience anymore. Now take your phone out and start playing on it.
The whips are the saving grace of the film
Richie is a kino character
>>Eddie's last fucking words being a yo momma joke
It makes sense though because that's how Richie and Eddie bantered all their life.
zoomers can't into sincerity and can only consume things layered in irony and winking self depreciation
So is Eddie.
Seriously, I could barely watch the new IT part 1 because of this.
That whole Darling Angle song/puke bit seemed like it belonged in a marvel movie
Jessica looked good at least
>Quipping was invented by Marvel movies
>movie comes out
>no one here cares about that scene
>RLM make a review complaining about that scene
>Yea Forums suddenly complains about it in every fucking IT thread
Every time.
>Richie being annoyed that his crush has his legs open and is putting his feet in his face
Richie didn't deserve Eddie desu, I'm glad he ends up alone and miserable at the end.
Lmao you were working at a movie theater that really isnt much better
Selling drugs.
I just watched it earlier today so haven't seen their review yet, didn't say I hated it just that it seemed random
So, what do you guys think of the movie beside the epic quip meme?
the book and everything it spawned is irredeemable garbage
I can see why people are bitching, but at a certain point you stop giving fuck like the target demographic because its all so futile. If you fuckers were here 20 years ago you'd all be complaining about Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith being stilted and serious.
I enjoyed it because I had limited exposure to the tv miniseries and had never read the book, so I wasn't over-analysing everything. Its a competantly made movie, and I'm glad that my boy Hader is getting work.
Lucky foot
this. It's completely in line with how the characters were in the book and miniseries, but just 80's kids rather than 50's kids.
I hate to tell you this but this is pretty much Horror's MO. I'm serious, go to ANY major horror franchise, or even minor one, with at least 3 movies in it and watch the first movie, then watch the last. You get shit like Nightmare on Elm Street turning into Freddie's Dead. Friday the 13th Part 2 becomes Jason X. Even Leprechaun was more serious before it went To The Hood. Texas Chainsaw Massacre went from gritty and painfully realistic and raw to dual wielding chainsaw fights within one movie. Exorcist went from serious and dark to snappy comedy one liners and Pazuzu. Hellraiser had fucking CD Cenobites, and that was by part 3. It got real stupid after them. Its just something that seems to have plagued all Horror since the very start of Dracula and the other monsters turning from horror to Abbot and Costello side characters. Its very much not a modern problem.
I kind of agree I wish it would stop but it seems the curse of the horror movie, they just devolve into not taking themselves seriously faster and faster.
This.
I mean, it makes sense. In my opinion, horror thrives on the unknown. As soon as the first movie in a franchise is done, the monster in question, whatever it is, has already been fully exposed. Any and all sequels will therefore not be scary because the viewer already knows what's coming.
The issue with Horror is twofold. One, that they are wonderful means for franchises with their memorable antagonists that don't require a specific highly paid actor, Freddy didn't need to keep Johnny Depp after all, and they're easy to make merch for, easy to market, cheap to make and quick to profit.
But then you realize that if you see the monster more than once, its really not that scary, is it? Especially since they've usually been defeated in some way in their first movie. So we've seen them at their worst and how to defeat them, but now you have to keep going and the spooky factor really isn't there anymore. Like Pennywise, we've seen him get his ass beaten in by little kids, so trying to make that scary again is a real challenge. Being entertaining is easier for most writers because they're used to writing for short comedy stuff, so that's what they default back to.
This isn’t really a problem with long franchises, at a certain point self-parody is all that’s left. There’s no excuse for OP though
it was okay. The acting was better than the miniseries with the exception of Tim Curry's Pennywise. I liked both Pennywise performances really they're different but both good. Bill's Pennywise is able to incorporate some contortionism into it a few times, which added to the creepy/inhuman aspect of the character, while Tim Curry was more deliberately comical. Both have their charm.
as an adaptation the miniseries was better for some aspects (set in the same times as the book vs being a timejump so that part takes place in modern day, using the universal movie monster (the werewolf) as one of It's forms, Richie not being gay, etc), and the film is better in others (the clown costume and Pennywise's look is closer to what was described in the book (The mini series was more patterned after Bozo the Clown), Bev is a redhead, they refer to the Ritual of Chud, see the origin of It's arrival on earth in a vision quest, Patrick Hockstetter is an actual character, etc.
I liked it overall. Book is obviously best.
a paint-by-numbers cgi fest with no real scares, miscast actors and a terrible ending
Anyone else really fucking love the Ritual of Chud reveal scene with the bizarre surrealist wickermen and spooky statue-masks used to represent the Native Americans? I feel like that was worth admission alone.
Its not even long franchises, Nightmare on Elm Street 2 had freddy whipping boys in the shower with a towel and giggling like a schoolgirl, Chainsaw 2 had the aforementioned dual wielding chainsaw fights, Jaws 2 had a scarfaced jaws and crazy college shenanigans. Predator 2 had the weirdest out of place pimp character ever put on film. Even the deservedly much beloved Aliens completely revamped the franchise in a more action setting and filled it to the brim with quips and one liners. It was Game Over Man for taking that single Xenomoprh seriously as a threat. Its very much an excuse for OP, bringing the monster back for another go after their decisive defeat has always seemed to come with the concession you're not going to take it as seriously this go round, Pennywise is no different than the Raptors from jurassic park getting beaten by teenage gymnastic power.
goddamn my stephen king clown-demon kid orgies are SERIOUS BUSINESS.
anyone got a webm?
huge downgrade
She really was.
seconding this
>miscast actors
Only Bev and Bill were miscast, the rest were perfect. Casting is the least of this movie's problems.
I thought adult Ben was kinda braindead compared to his chubby kid self. He went from a smart kid interested in history to dude I'm a hot architect lmao. He really wasn't that attractive either.
>He went from a smart kid interested in history
That's because that's Mike's personality trait, for some reason the first movie decided to place all of Mike's purpose and character onto Ben. Ben in the book is just an architect who's in love with Bev, his purpose is being more of an audience surrogate.
Obviously it's from a shitty camrip so
Why didn't Pennywise take on this form at the end? It's way neater. Is it because of the studio going "but muh clown"?
>just call me...
what the fuck were they thinking?
everyone tends to ignore the fact that the engraving on the injun ritual thing is a depiction of the DT
DT?
I've heard from people that read the book that a lot of it also has humor laced into the horror scenes and they said it was similar in tone to the book.
>richie throws a rock at pennywise, screaming fuck you at the same time
>pennywise turns around, looking pretty pissed
>camera turns back to richie who keeps shouting
>gets instantly blasted by the deadlights and the camera switches back to open mouthed pennywise with the deadlights behind his head
Absolute fucking kino, I want to see the film again just for that moment alone
the dark tower, its seven points with the tower at its head
all king books are like that, but its in context, e.g. some weird horrific shit is going down, and then a song like maybe, shiny happy people suddenly starts playing on the radio, its different, the characters act like a normal person would act in the scenario presented, usually terrified out of their minds
well It liked to fuck with people and found humorous ways to do it sometimes. Both the miniseries and film did this, so there was always kind of dark morbid humor interlaced in it.
Bill hader hit the dead lights look so well
Pennywise the Clown and extremely based faggot killer
He also made a Jew kill himself.
>richie gets deadlight'd
>isnt permanently mind-raped
BS
Horror used to be something else. Like Blair Witch Project. Not a single fucking jump scare. If you don't invest yourself in the story and pay fucking attention you won't even understand anything. It demanded something from the audience.
The old miniseries might be cheesy in some bits and dated but the TV aesthetic made it look far more normal and the terror was in the concept and not in the jump scares. It had none. I still like these movies but prefer the miniseries.
Yeah that's what I was thinking. Bev was dead-eyed, floating, and saw how each of them died.
What the hell, I do this all the time.
America is collapsing, people cant handle harshness
Pretty much this.
I also wonder how much of the films shittiness can be explained by how boring the adult sections can be. The lowest point of the miniseries was for sure the latter adult part. In the book iirc it switches between the adult and kid stories every now and again so maybe those parts are just the most boring or some shit. The first one was so much better, not just because of the kids but because it feels like that could have been it and it's still great without chapter two.
Honestly IT would've been better if they never came back to "kill" IT. Should've ended with them growing up, leaving Derry, and forgetting about it all. That would've at least played into the horror aspect.
Pennywise isn't dead, anyways. And they totally failed to touch on the fact it laid eggs.
Fucking this. Casting Chastain was an insanely big mistake.
I preferred Adams as far as fan castings go. Probably a cute unknown would've been awesome. Chastain looks like Eddie Redmayne in a wig.
Also kudos for inserting kid Ben from the old miniseries in a cameo but they should've done that for all the remaining main cast of the miniseries and made it more obvious.
Post yfw
>you’re supposed to say three
That and the funhouse part were tense as fuck.
oh boy here comes another jumpscare for the ADHD audience
Blair Witch is the exception, not the rule. By the time that movie came around, the horror movie landscape was a fucking joke, being parodied by films in its own genre (i.e Scream).
It was nothing but sequels and imitators. Horror has always, and will always be mostly shit, with a few gems that are examples of its potential.
So quit pretending to have some nostalgia for it that you don't have, you fucking poser.
You stick your feet into the face of shotas?
>I watch the RLM review and not the movie
fuck off
It was great.
What? The books are connected, everyone already knows that.
so? no-one ever brings up the DT thats basically being shoved in your face, its their, it also brings up major complications, if this is real IT from the SK universe then its different from the one thats just in IT, from the movies/show that is what the difference is.
I actually prefer the miniseries too and am surprised by how much more genuinely scary it is now in comparison to the overly-cinematic and bombastic approach of the new ones, especially in Chapter 2. I was actually taken out pretty early in the movie when Stan killed himself because in my mind I was thinking 'wow... That's it? The Miniseries actually made that more intense and haunting' and honestly that kept happening every time they repeated scenes from each other, more often than not I found the miniseries had a better approach to them. The Chinese Restaurant was superior in this one though and really got my hopes up, it sucks, because the scenes immediately after the Restaurant are some of the worst in the movie, that entire slog of a middle part where they all split up like an episode of Scooby Doo
Bev was there for at least 30 minutes, Richie for one or two at most. I don't know how time works for the deadlights though, but that might be why the same thing didn't happen to him. Excluding because the plot said so.
The scares that worked were the ones that wasn't ooga booga scary clown, it was the ones where there was dread because you knew exactly what was coming. The opening, girl behind the bleacher, granny before she turned into a CGI monster and the house of mirror scenes were pretty good.
Honestly Bill knows how to do creepy with just facial acting. Shame the rest of it had to devolve into schlock. I wanted to see a better version of the spider, not Pennywise with spider appendages.
Although the way he died was pretty fitting.
this, I was laughing at shit like cgi naked monster granny or the lumberjack, it wasn't scary it was like a children's cartoon suddenly inserted into a normal supernatural thriller, it was so stupid, the first was the same but idk, they seemed to tone down that shit in 1
It just works better when it's being played against a cast of child actors and not adults, they should be facing more adult horrors and anxieties not literal monsters from their childhood still
maybe, the cgi shit didn't work in 1 either, but I thought it was more subdued, and only used when it was time, in 2 its like random stupid cgi "monsters" popped up every 10 mins with 1vthe cgi shit that was awful too, but at least it wasn't every ten fucking minutes, and not every "jump-scare" either, a few where well done, not many but some
Even contextually it makes more narrative sense that he'd be more fantastical in his monster forms for the kids, but god damn yeah they looked bad in terms of the actual cgi. But the ones in Chapter 2 are somehow way worse looking, the grandma was ridiculous and was reminding me of Grendel out of that old Beowulf movie. There wasn't a single actual effective looking scare in this entire movie when it came to the creatures the only ones I actually liked was the fortune cookie creatures
>grendal
yes, thats what it was, kinda worked in beowulf,, doesn't here, at all, its literally funny when the granny bursts out like grendal, the lead up was pretty great, you see her being twitching and weird in the back ground and all that is good but then, its so dumb, a literal cartoon monster, like most of them
>Red It
He had a boner the entire time
huh? whats that about 12yr old kids? what the fuck is wrong with you?
This new Pennywise has to be the scariest movie monster we've seen in years. Literally years. There's two scenes in this teaser that absolutely sent shivers down my spine. First when the Losers club meets up as adults.
The other one is in the basement, first we see the excellent performance by Georgie's actor. 'You lied and I died' never has sounded more epically scary. And then Pennywise rises from the waters. I jumped in my chair and still do when watching this. I can tell I will be on the edge of my seat in theatres this september.
The movie itself seems to capture that 80s feeling we've seen in Stranger Things and other important work. Do your part and see it in theaters. Be a part of history.
Richie is an asshole that can't stop cracking jokes in the book. It's just how his brain works, he literally had to learn self-control as he got older, and when he returns to Derry he's regressing mentally because they all are.
Ah yes, 12-year-old boys, famous for never having boners
I hope you die in prison pedophile
The most pathetic part is that they were proud of that sequence possibly more than any other scare in the film. So much that an entire trailer, the one that was put in theaters for the most amount of time was just entirely cut out of that sequence ending right before revealing the cgi grendma, they teased THAT reveal through the majority of the advertising it's hilarious that that's what that payoff was after those months of build-up.
Eh, Eddie probably said that to make Richie feel better. It feels in character in IT.
Ididn't watch any trailer, and saw both fimls this week, that granny shit was jjust so dumb , it was basically slapstick, their were parts in the first that were like that but I gave them a pass, the fact that this shit got 2 movies is ridiculous, who is calling this "horror" or anything like that? I've read King a lot of it, including IT and this shit is laughable, I was wondering why the actors didn't just crack up and start laughing
The I fucked your mom thing switches the power in Eddie's favor too, and I think that's a little bit less awkward than calling your friend something he's always hated when he's dying, even if you are just kidding. Both are pretty kino though.
this thread just boils down to faggots who like bone chilling, atmospheric movies
This movie shits all over any good will the first film built up, that one was a smash hit and won over audiences everywhere and I thought it did a great job adapting the source material and offering a fun take on it. But god damn Chapter 2 sucked so hard that I'm pretty sure it will sour the original for most people.
The worst part too is how unnecessary Chapter 2 was. When you really think about it, they did a good enough job making the first movie with the kids half feel stand-alone enough that you don't really need the second part with them as adults. They even fought him off in the climax the same way in both movies, Chapter 2 seriously just feels like a shitty remake of Chapter 1 in a lot of areas
Fucking hell the painting bitch was amazing in Part 1, exactly the type of shit you were scared of as a kid. We didn't get any of that this time around.
Also, did Richie love Eddie, or what the fuck was that initial carving thing in the end?
Because of all you short-attention-span faggots and your lowest-common-denominator memes. This is the shit you hath wrought. Deal with it. I've already walked away, you guys are retarded and so is modern "cinema". Quiptards.
Did you literally just copy paste a paid review?
Yes, but it wasn't shit though
>Who the fuck knows where they get the money,
Taxes stolen from your paycheck
because youtube video essay channels hated batman v superman
how is that relevant to a supposed 'horror' film, really arnies one liners are what you are using to justify this shit? go home and rethink your life
Little random, but do you guys have problem of noncaring with horror movies?
Cause i do.
Horror works so much better in videogame format, its unbelievable.
Movies NOT SCARY. They can be curious, disgusting or entertaining, but never scary. At least for me.
no he reworked shitty pasta, not much different
post-modernism
post-irony
irony
sarcasm
cringe culture
all cancer
What's a marvel style quip?
maybe just go back? >>Yea Forums lots of films can have genuinelt creepy and or "scary" shit this isn't one of them, all of your vidya is just a rip off of movies that were actually "scary" or at least tried to be.
Like when?
orange peels, cut the mullet, just call me angel, etc. this shit was full of it
Yes, Chapter 2 tried to paint Richie as gay for Eddie. It's also the "secret" Pennywise talked about to Richie.
>maybe just go back?
May i stay, please? I like to talk to you, but if one mention of videogames trigger you this hard...
>just call me angel
>cut your mullet
>naked grandma
>lumberjack
>1/2 spider with clown legs
and so much more
then go back Yea Forumsfaggot no-one here cares, their is more then enough stupid shit to break down without also having to deal with vidya fags
THIS is why you're butthurt?
One that is lame, unfunny, and meant to appeal to brainlets. Often surrounded by weak ass writing just to set up the delivery of a line.
>DUDE HOW ABOUT WE DRAG IT OUT AS LONG AS WE CAN THIS 1 AND A HALF HOUR MOVIE TO SEEM MORE SERIOUS?
No, i will stay, ok?
And remember, even stoopid bideogames are better than horror movies.
about what? a shitty film? what do you even mean? im discussing an atrocious couple movies and why they suck, what the fuck are you talking about?
rmemebr you are both uneducated and retarded, this film sucks many dont, stop playing so much vidya an watch a real movie, or don't its not like you will anyway
Wow, its like, its all subjective, right? Like, all our talking here is pointless, haha, imagine that, right?
this exact same post will be made in 10 years by today's zoomers.
The difference here is that in the MCU everyone quips at all times regardless of their character or their situation.
You know, there's something really fitting about how low budget and 'seedy' the tv version is.
or maybe you ar just a tourist from Yea Forums who is desperatly defending this shit for some reason, haha imagine even doing that, imagine the kinda person who would go onto a board he has no idea about or business being on, and spouting stupid shit to defend a terrible blockbuster, just imagine what that person would be like...oh wait nvm
>or maybe you ar just a tourist from Yea Forums
No, im not, im Yea Forums veteran of many years and you just CANT proof otherwise.
And im not defending anything, im just asking if my 4channel brothers have same feeling towards horror movies. What the fuck you even talking about?
>you can't prove
yes I can this post is all the proof I would ever need, Yea Forumsfaggot
are you fucking 200 years old? movies have done close-up shots forever
>all the proof I would ever need
Well, you proof is not proof, because i sayed so.
are you that desperate for (you)'s you'll just randomly start spamming stupid shit? STOP DEFENDING THIS AWFUL CRAP AND GO AWAY FOREVER, last (you) vidya child
Richie was the most based character in the book as well, Bill is surprisingly shit
do you not understand what that user is saying?
1 their is no such thing as a "closeup shot"
Zoomers think sincerity is cringe.
Isn't Bill the typical Stephen King self-insert? Of course he's boring.
It would've been kino if he'd just ended at "overdue". But I guess the literal retards in the theater wouldn't have got it that way.
you mean the stranger thngs kid? fuck no richie was awful in the films and average in the book, what the fuck are you talking about? billy is the best character in the story. In the movies idk the fat kid was decent thats about it
>are you that desperate for (you)'s you'll just randomly start spamming stupid shit?
Hey, as long as it works!
>STOP DEFENDING THIS AWFUL CRAP AND GO AWAY FOREVER, last (you) vidya child
Yeah, yeah, shout it all you want. The OBJECTIVE truth is that horror videogames >>>> horror movies, dont know why you so angry about it.
Sk's self insert is not billy, sk has always made a point of self inserting as the most pathetic MC who does good in the end, Sk is the fatkid
>hey as long as it works
so you are literally just after (you)'s you are fucking pathetic, really you are a waste of life
Finn was pretty horrendous as Richie but I think Bill Hader did a decent job
>really you are a waste of life
But why?
Am i worse than you?
Person who cant keep his shit for 10 seconds and not get triggered with simple question about horror movies?
Thas bullshit from me.
Im pathetic? More like YOU pathetic.
Parry that, fellow user [/spoiler[
the point was the op being retarded and thinking Marvel movies invented cheesy one liners. I'm saying they've always been in movies.
he did, he was much closer to what richie was then the kid,, but I guess adult actors who can actually act will help with that
still desperate for a (you)? here's one more faggot fren go back to Yea Forums
>now i have to kill this fucking clown
>*entire cinema claps*
then you fucked up, cheesy oneliners can work in action films, especially arnie ones, in horror? not so much, in some over pretentious 2019 horror based on SK cocaine fucker? not at all, use the "one-liners" in the novel or don't use any at all, or you'll get shit like
>just call me angel
because the people making this shit have no idea what the fuck they are doing
Wrong. Mike is the best character in the book.
you're still missing the point.
>OP claims that they are "marvel quips"
IE, implying that Marvel Movies are where this shit started.
If he'd said "Why does everything have to have tension deescalating stupid one liners now? Why can't stuff take itself seriously anymore?" I dunno if I'd even replied, or at most asked what in particular he was referring to and maybe brought up that the book still had Richie picking on "Eds" and his death being a response to Richie calling him that name and he hated it.
It's the Marvel part that's stupid about what OP's talking about. Marvel's derivative, it wasn't the origin of any film trope.
he's the 2nd most useful/competent, he's not the best
at almost 200 posts you are trying to argue that quips are just fine because OP related it to marvel? rethink your life
I like him as a character but his parts were so fucking boring in the book imo
>fren go back to Yea Forums
Okay, bye. See you later, when movies will be as cool as video games(NEVER ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah)
as long as you go and stay their, bye forever
and I'll add, even in Horror movies dumb one liners are rife in the genre. Any Nightmare on Elm Street movie after the first one is just Robert Englund going ham.
youtube.com
>This is it Jennifer, your big break in TV! Welcome to Prime Time bitch!
then pulls her into the TV .. you know "break in" TV.
youtube.com
youtube.com
Do I need to go on?
no, 2 arguments.
#1 Marvel didn't invent one liners fucking retards
#2 They've been in even horror movies forever and you're just being autistic and nitpicking.
You can go fuck off back to your slow burn no jumpscares nothing happens "cerebral" horror movies like the VVitch.
now your trying to use freddy? you have really run out of any attempt at an argument eh? first arnie then 80s schlock, damn
in this film ,it is not only out of place it, is cringy and not even naturally incorporated but some weird dubbed in line, how can you not get this, watch the shit you are trying to defend
In a movie where the killer takes on the form of a fucking clown you don't expect any stupid one liner jokes? In the miniseries and film Richie was changed from a radio DJ to a stand up comedian, you don't expect dumb jokes? Did you watch the Miniseries? It's full of Richie, both Seth Green and the adult Richie making dumb jokes the whole time through. Richie was that way in the book too even though he was a Radio DJ and not actually a comedian, part of his character was that he made really bad voice impressions and cheesy jokes.
It wouldn't have fit with the book if it'd been devoid of things like that. You're nitpicking and should fuck off back to your slow burn bullshit.
i expect lots of jokes, i dont except out of pmace weird oneliners or music cues that most of the time cant even be attribitued to anything, like i said, e
if you dont get the idea then just use whats on the page, you are being paid enough right? ive just looked you up and you have 3 movies to your name 2 are IT maube stop being such a faggot and just use whats infront of you, its not like you uave anything else like talent or creativity to draw on, might as well use the coked up weirdos
Imagine how sad, empty and pathetic a person's life must be to obsess over race like this
this. Holy shit I hate negroes but I'm not thinking about them 24/7
if you thought these were bad you should rewatch the mini series.
Beep Beep Richie.
what do you mean? how is maybe 12 word post "obsessed"
Richie are the MVP of both movie, the fact that both the kid and the adult are perfect cast is something
how would that make the stupid films i just watched any better? are you saying one terrible director negagtes another one?
the fact that english is clearly not your first language is also something, and richie was awful as a kid and barely tolerable as an adult
I thought Bill Hader’s portray of him was a bit too much, and I also can’t stand his nasal voice, but I always hated that guy so maybe I’m a bit biased.
Nothing beats Finn’s Richie though, even in the little time he had in Chapter 2 he was a standout.
>and richie was awful as a kid and barely tolerable as an adult
Maybe if you’re a faggot. If you ask literally anyone they’d all say Richie is the best character
what do you mean "stand out"? he was grating cringy and shit, literally every other child actor was better and seemed more real then him, the richie kid was a shit actor trying to play a 'role' and it showed
No I'm saying that your statements of them being "out of place" are nitpicking because they're kind of par for the course for all instances of the story, and also kind of par for the course for horror movies in general.
Your expectation doesn't line up with the book, and doesn't line up for most horror movies.
your asking me and I disagee, and idk who you talk to but riche sucked in the book and sucks way more in these movies, the kid especially its so obviously a kid trying to act where as the rest at least mostly come off as actual kids in this situation
direct better movies from now on you fucking hack, maybe watch like 1000 real films before trying again, even 5 or so would be good
why can't you read? i've said if you couldn't deal with making an SK horror with odd humor then you should've just taken directly from the source instead of trying to insert your own awful brand of "humor" or w/e shit like "just call me angel" was suppose to be
nightmare on elm street 2 is kino homoerotic horror though
based autist
t. soon to be castrated pedophile
Obvious contrarian. The kid who plays Richie was the most natural one in the first movie, you could hear his line delivery and can easily tell he’s very much in character while the other kids seem to be reading lines, especially Stan. In the second movie even with his CGI face he still came across as more natural than the rest of the kids.
Agreed. Kid Eddie comes as a close second
well for one, it's an adaptation set in a different time from the original book. Like I brought up before, Richie's jokes in the book and miniseries were more innocent because they're rooted in the 50's rather than 80's where he's more crass and vulgar.
>contrarian
no literally every other actor seemed more natural then that stranger things kid, he immediately seemed like he was "acting" where as all the other kids were just in the world, and it never changed from the beginning to the end for 2 films that stupid cringy kid always was "acting" all the others were the characters
that doesn't excuse the cringy self aware awful shit you forced on people, every single interaction was better then richies, all of them, thats not a matter of era that a matter of fundamentally fucking up
Well It sucks that you don’t have friends. Most of my friends agreed that Richie was their favorite in the first one, and most of them agreed that Bill Hader was their favorite in the second one. It’s easy to see why the most fun character is a fan favorite
>you forced
you do realize I'm not even remotely connected to the people who made the movie right?
I went and saw it in the theater, that's all.
Stan and Bill were the worst. Idk whose niece the Bill’s actor is but he’s taking up all the child character roles despite being extremely bland in everything he’s in
i’m thinking about a 12 year old’s boner right now and there’s nothing you can do to stop it
I do, good people, weird that you have to try and say I don't just to justify your awful child "actor" why are you taking this so personally are you him? all you can seem to say is "n-no he's a 'fan-favorite' I asked my friends online and they do so wtf?" really stop, i don't care what your friends think I thought he was the worst out of all of them, except the kid without any personality at all, and thats only because he didn't have one, if he did i'm sure it would've been better then "look at me i'm acting" kid
lol sure I can, the teams on its way to your door now, have fun
I assumed after your blind defense of an awful movie and an awful actor, you must have some kinda investment in it, after all who else would defend this shit?
Well it’s okay that you don’t agree with me, I don’t think I can convince you. Just want to say that on the web or irl Richie is one of the most popular characters and you can’t change that fact.
what I'm "defending" is that this shit is nothing new and saying "wtf were you expecting?"
thats not surprising, after all that ST tv show and marvel movies have done really well too, that has nothing to do with talent or believability as an actor
you seem molested
The fuck you talking about? I’m just saying that most people love that character. You’re the one who seems to be getting so upset about people liking him and somehow it’s become something personal with the actor, with your wall of text and all
no what your doing is defending this shit by unironically saying "it was a different time"
and i'm saying he is the worst actor out of the entire cast, both adult and kid, I said that maybe 10 posts ago, but you just can't hep defending this "actor" can you? why?
Most people seem to argue just for the sake of arguing, this thread is an autists magnet
what's the "just call me angel" quip? seen the movie but can't remember that one
what so he's just gonna talk like a 50's kid growing up in the 80's?
It's a valid critique to say maybe they shouldn't have set the film in the 80's/2010's for the adaptation and stuck with the 50's/80's timeline of the book.
It's not a valid complaint to say "they shouldn't use dick and your mom jokes, it's cringe" when the character is set in the 80's where that shit was commonplace.
I already told you to hold onto your precious opinions and it’s ok to disagree with me lmao, don’t get so upset.
same, I honestly didn't really remember that one.
I remember young Richie saying things like "And still is, right boys?!" when Ben said that Derry was a Beaver Trapping camp.
When the leper barfs into Eddie's face.
thats not what I said, I said the delivery by the ST kid was terrible, really fucking awful, the stupid music cues and shit cgi cartoon monsters during "horror" scenes was also terrible, their was alot of terrible shit in these movies, that kid was a major one
It intends to relieve all tension good or bad, if a scene built up dramatic tension perhaps someone almost died they’d quip allowing the audience to laugh and take a breath. What makes them distinctly “marvel” is the quips can happen any time even sad or serious moments which means the movies never experienced true dramatic lows.
it a very strange very badly timed bit of music that plays when the leper vomits on eddie, most speculate it was suppose to be funny
That can be your opinion but.. as another user has pointed out already, you're in the minority because most people loved Finn's portrayal of Richie, and Hader's as well.
It's adult Bev that didn't work for me. Real tone change between young Bev and Adult Bev.
Henry's actor is literally gay
>your in the minority
you say that like its an argument, where do you think you are?
Oh the SONG.. okay.. I thought it was one of the characters saying that and it didn't ring a bell for the memory. Yeah, bad music choice, but.. ultimately not very memorable for me.
which one? their are 4
>not very memorabel for me
I suspect for you, not much is
I don’t understand. What’s this image trying to convey?
This. It's also a good death, together with his best friends, going out with some humor.
That said, the movie is a mixed bag. It's like kino got mixed in with major tone issues and inconsistent writing. Ah what could've been. Enjoyhed the movie for what it was, but it could've been much better.
put your phone away and try and figure it out, you'll get it eventually
some stupid boomer that doesn’t understand filmic language trying to be smart
An evil spirit in the form of a clown makes jokes? Why that would just be horrific!
>filmic
Stan’s actor had a small role in Guardian of the Galaxy, but he has hit a stop sign and doesn’t have much to do now
Bill’s actor has a permanent baby face I guess that’s why he keeps getting child roles.
Richie was in Stranger Things but I literally didn’t recognized him despite I had just watched season 1 a week ago before I watched IT.
film·ic
/ˈfilmik/
adjective
relating to movies or cinematography.
flimic
>Bill Hader
>worst actor
Either retarded or bait
I felt the performance of the young Finn Wolfhard as Richie was the highlight of the film.
just admit that you’re a dumb nigger that doesn’t understand basic language or visual media and go
easily the worst out of the adults, better then the kids
w-what if eddie gave richie a footjob while they were in the clubhouse hammock
Its ruining everything
To answer your question, its simply because the population is dumber
i'm sure you do pedophile is this filmic?
you seem molested x 2
what if you got chemically castrated and incarcerated for life?
Honestly, a tone shift in a person after a 30 year timeskip seems kinda appropriate, to me.
enjoy your balls being burnt off pedophile
>marvel invented jokes
OH NO NO NO RENT FREE
>badly timed quips
yea they perfected it
maybe. Still didn't like the performance.
still better then the pedobait
Can’t wait for the 6 hour director’s cut that includes their make out scene
can't wait till your behind bars
Well they had that one joke where the Heretic and that slowguy where gonna do a puppet show, and everyone is like: Puppets?! forreal?!
a joke and a completely tone deaf quip are two different things, one is done by a film or show that is competent the other is done by shit like IT
I wish the spider resembled something less like a clown. The part where the deadlights were shining through it's open maw/skull were really cool, but i imagined it a lot different reading the book.
Also, Richie is gay in the book. There are three or four small nods to it, so it wasn't really hamfisted. To those complaining about it.
prove to me that you didn’t get an erection looking at eddie’s perfect smooth bare thighs
I don't sexualize her but I liked Sophia Lillis' portrayal better, she fit the tomboyish Bev character better, and it was orders of magnitude better than child bev in the mini series.
don't think anyone is complaining he's gay, just that he's a terrible actor
>watch It Part 1
>like it, don’t really notice or think much about the special effects
>get done watching Dark Crystal: AoR on Netflix
>see It Part 2 right after
>suddenly the CG looks like shit and I can’t help but think the practical effects in the 80s made for tv version of It were ultimately better
Is CG ruined for me forever because I got spoiled with puppets, or was it genuinely bad in It Part 2?
Imagine being a damn nigger
proves to me you belong behind bars
It was genuinely bad, I didn't watch anything beforehand and it still looked pretty awful to me.
He was the best in the first movie, only behind Bill Hader in the second one. Also he gets extra credits for being the one who suggested Bill Hader to play him
sorry you’re too much of a provincial normie to appreciate the splendor of boy thighs
The source material was a joke to begin with.
Can someone post the webm?
>thought the practical effects from the tv version were better
Nigga what?
They used motherfuckin, claymation in that shit.
yoy get extra pedo credits for being extra pedophilic, fortunately a governement funded reward is available, it involves life time food and accommodation, please seek out your nearest law enforcement department to discuss this reward
i hope you die painfully and soon, as you are a pedophile im sure it wont be long, i look forward to it
My wife Sophia Lillis is so cute.
In the book fine but if you're going to do it in the movie, have something happen in the first film. If they put the scene with Bowers's cousin in the first movie it would have been fine.
Disappointed in no real drider, but they overdid it with the CGI overall anyway.
anyone who uses the term "forced into" is dumb and their opinion should be immediately disregarded. Like, for example. my defense attorney.
shut the fuck up BOOMER
>drider
like from d&d? huh? is every spider monster thing a 'drider' to you? lol
ah, that part. honestly don't have a clue what they were trying to go for with that, some bizarre attempt at comedy?
>watch Original Thing about a dozen times growing up
>watch the Thing remake later on in life
>absolute burning hatred for CGI horror movies since
>tfw literally bored to death at IT 1 and 2 while also intensely agitated at how obnoxiously loud some of the scenes were (like the Projector attack in part 1 or the Bunyan scene in part 2)
theres zero subtely anymore. we are literally in the equivalent of someone hopping out from behind a brush and yelling "BOOGAH BOOGA BOOGA!!! "while waving his hands meanwhile smoothbrains will exclaim OMG THAT MADE ME JUMP! and tick it off as a good movie for doing such even though it was completely foreshadowed by the sudden abscence of BGM.
cute
I went to one of the premiers showings in my city. Everyone started clapping and cheering after the mullet quip
I’m not joking
>everything relates to D&D
Yikes. Absolute fucking neckbeard. Probably a reddit obsessed gargoyle. Fuck off and develop a personality that isn't beating off to cuck porn.
drider is only from d&d nothing else, stop pretending retard
You probably enjoyed the void which was absolutely fucking garbage. Not everything with CGI is shit you crybaby.
Haven’t watched the new one, is there a joke that tops the “beavers trapping” one?
Learn to greentext next time you come from reddit.
Driders are from dungeons and dragons. Go suck off gygax and his shit game.
the mullet quip was funny
clapping is inexcusable though
lot of stuff with cgi isnt shit, this is not one of them, i completely agree with that user, stupid cartoon monsters jumping out of a bush yelling "BOO" that was 95% of both these shit flicks
i didnt intend to greentext newfag but now sure
>drider
is a monster from a tabletop game, you are an idiot
Those CGI fortune cookies were terrible.
From your paycheck. Dumbfuck leftards are destroying this world
d&d is dungons and dragons you complete faggot, dont post on my board again, we already did this 2 years ago i btfo of you then and ill do again
the Void was boring and was mostly gore. Im not a fan of gore. gore isnt "horror" its just gross and makes you uncomfortable/wince.
and you are right. not EVERYTHING with CGI is shit. Cabin in the Woods gets a pass for actually using its CGI properly (over the top action). but for the most part I dont see how people can find CGI OOGA BOOGA movies entertaining. like did you fags really jump when Pennywise extended his goblinshark mouth to chomp something for about the fifth fucking time in this franchise? was anyone scared at the Chinese resturaunt scene? im okay with CGI in movies like Godzilla/Transformers/Annihilation just not HORROR movies because CGI ridden monsters are decisively unscary.
Jump scares themselves aren't the problem. They're fun when used properly. But blaring a loud sound that makes you jump because it damages your ears is not making you jump because its scary, its making you jump because its noisy. I completely agree, the first movie was fucking annoying with the noise. They do it because they know its not actually scary. Halloween didnt do it.
I didn't think Richie was gay when reading the book. Oddly enough I feel like the movie didn't include the scenes that implied Eddie was a repressed homo like the leper offering him a blowjob and Bowers calling him a babyfag before Eddie stabs him.
>that time his face melted as he screamed Y WONT U PLAY WITH DA CLOOOWN :(((
> Meg Mucklebones chasing around Bev
>him licking the glass like the snapchat filter
>flaming head Bev
eventually you just start to laugh.
It's not about the quantity of his post. It's the fact that his mind instantly went to think about niggers for absolutely no reason whatsoever, he's clearly obsessed
lol obsessed
I don’t even really hate jump scares it’s just the telegraphed audio that makes them obvious. Also the movie was remarkably repetitive and every characters individual scare scene played out exactly the same
i agree 100% espeically with that shoehorend in song when the zombie vommited on eddie. It makes 0 sense
>something weird happens
>LOUD SOUND PLAYS
>character starts looking around slowly
>something else weird happens
>LOUD SOUND PLAYS
It's not just IT that does this either. It's like they use the loud sound to signal to the audience that something has happened so get off you fucking phones and pay attention.
Tell me im wrong, if I brought up how marvel quips are important for tranny rights for no reason whatsoever you'd be saying the same thing to me.
Maybe this is why I find Homecoming to be so refreshing. Despite being surrounded by ironic shitposters like Tony and Michelle, Holland's Spider-Man remains sincere throughout. And Spider-Man is like the quippiest hero. Even Peter's jokes ("I'm shocked," "You guys aren't the Avengers,") feel a hell of a lot better than the other ones.
Very true.. maybe what separates one liners from marvel quips is placement, quantity and delivery?
Im sure if you compare how many quips arnold makes in Total Recall vs the ammount of quips in iron man 1, iron man 1 would take the cake.
Also In many Arnold movies, Arnold is the one liner hero, a lot of times he has a sidekick who is the comic relief, more than just a one liner, the side kick is the quip machine. But in marvel, all the leads are quip machines, they dont simply do one liners, EVERYONE jokes and quips. And it gets real annoying real quick.
Come to think of it, cap is the only lead that isnt a quip machine. He seems to be a very traditional one liner hero.
Comic book movies before the rise of the mcu all followed the one liner hero model. Many would argue that spidey wasnt enough of a quiper in the raimiverse, batman had a few one liners but most quips/ jokes were from side characters. After mcu's boom, you have shit like batman and aquaman quipping all over the place.
you're going to have to explain what you see as the difference between a quip and a one liner because to me, they're kind of the same thing, just the connotation seems to be that quips are one liners you don't like while one liners are one liners that you find acceptable... and that's a subjective thing.
I was laughing hysterically during the fag bashing scene. Based and redpilled.
Found the redditor
What was the point of the bully character? In the book he disables one of them from going in the sewer.
this is his boyfriend
A one liner is exactly that, its one line that is said to emphasize a scene, one liners are definitely a marketing strategy too, to build iconography and make a character memorable.
A quip is a joke that doesnt emphasize a scene, and only aims to make light of the scene. Its done completely for laughs.
"Hasta la vista baby" vs " Yes! I know him from work!"
When T800 says this phrase, its said at the end of a battle, to emphasize the finale. Theres also backstory to the phrase ( john teaching it to him earlier, to make t800 more human) and the line itself shows that t800 has grown as a character. Also, it isnt funny at this point, its delivered in a way that makes it more cool than funny.
When Thor yells out I know him from work, its a joke. Its not a one liner that's there to puncuate a scene, its for laughs. Being taken to an alien world, where you're stripped of most of your powers isnt a funny situation. The shift in tone goes from, foreboding ( here comes the alien champ who could it be?) to comedic, " oh its just my friend, yay."
Also, something to consider is, response.
If T1000 could respond to hasta la vista, what could he really say? "No you"? There is no reply to a one liner.
You could respond to the " know him from my place of employment" quip, the hulk himself responded with fists.
Thats not to say some one liners arent funny, but theyre usually placed in a scene as the finisher not simply for laughs.
Cute!
It was really weird having Eddie go "LOL CUT UR MULLET ITS BEEN 30 YEARS" quickly as he left the room. It almost seemed ADR'd in.
>YOU WANNA PLAY STREET FIGHTER?
I had a good laugh. That said, Mortal Kombat didn't exist back then.
Yea that definitely sounds shoehorned in. Sounds like a lot of the jokes in IT 2 were badly timed.
Also, sounds too wordy. Its not at all catchy enough to be a one liner. It has no ring to it, its just an opinion really.
That was the only part where Pennywise looked cool in that final scene. I wish they had gone more with something like Pennywise's head as the spider's abdomen, maybe the deadlights forming the head and legs coming out of his mouth.
But they blew their load on that stupid boring pointless homage to The Thing I guess, fuck it lets just have a spider centaur.
The mini series had better pacing. This would have made for a better miniseries and probably would have lead to more balance between the adult/kid stuff.
Christ did we really need 40 minutes of "get the token" sidequests?
I thought Stan killed himself specifically because he saw It was pregnant as a child.
