Then went on with his Avatar filming. His "involvement" is bare a best. The basic idea of the story didnt even come from him. It came from the same dude who was involved with genysis prior. He also kept on adjusting the script as they were filming, so he was very much involved.
It's true that he doesn't show up on set and he's very upfront about it. He respects the independence of the director's chair, because he is one himself and had some bad experiences with producers trying to put too much control on his movies. But that doesn't mean he doesn't communicate with the actors / director

I didn't say Cameron initiated the project, but he did play an active role in creating the story, say what you want it's true. When you bring Cameron on board, of course everyone will look for his approval on key decisions, he created the franchise. So his presence does matter.
it won't be better than T1 or T2 but Tim Miller can direct a decent action scene and Cameron overseeing story elements is good enough for me. And it's one of the rare big budget things that isn't Disney, we need competition bruh, do you want Disney ruling the world?
