i really enjoyed Dr. Strangelove, Ripper was kino. but I don't understand why so many people rate it at the top so often. What about it makes it number one for you? i also didnt fully understand the Dr. Strangelove character - does he have more meaning than just being a goofy man?
Elijah Jackson
>lolita THAT high
deary me... anyone who has read the book knows just how bad an adaptation Kubrick's film is, we barely see any romance between Humbert and Lolita (and that's just one of the problems)
Charles Hall
its implied well enough. imagine showing a hebephilic romance in 1962
Nathaniel Peterson
whenever I'm asked my favorite kubrick movies I list them in reverse order just like OP.
Joseph Wood
The romance was the best part of the book and helped make the reader sympathise with Humbert, if Kubrick could only imply the romance due to strict standards of the time then he shouldn't have bothered to make the film in the first place.
Cameron Clark

Rewatchability. He's the archetype of a German "mad scientist", allegedly loosely inspired by Wernher von Braun, although by all accounts von Braun was a gentleman. Beyond that, I think the character is as much Peter Sellers' own fantasy as he is Kubrick's vision.
