I think the katabasis scene is actually the least interesting part of the movie, which isn't to say I don't think it's great but to me it just shines more focus on the rest of the movie before it by wrapping it all up, on rewatching everything about the movie is completely different. First time I watched the movie I thought the dialogue was just a kind of heightened realism to make it more obvious and interesting to the viewer, I didn't notice that all the actions and dialogue of the characters is actually a different psychopathic retarded interpretation by Jack, and just how much more funny and tense it makes the movie. I also notices the focus of red objects, everyone Jack kills has some kind of a red item that ties to their death, so many little things that make the world of the movie all the more a kind of an analogous psychopath's dream, with Virgil as the moral conscious and anchor for the viewer.
