I like the snippets and they've convinced me to see the movie. The interview and live-stage gunshot plus the dude getting stabbed then head-battered inside I'm guessing Joker or somebody else's apartment both sucked me in. The actual dialogue itself sound straight out of a bad comic, which I guess is "true" to the source, but Phoenix himself and the way the scenes are handled elevated it way the hell past what I was hearing. I'm hooked. Won't watch anymore leaks since I'd rather enjoy the rest all at once.

Gotham has always been portrayed as a rotten society. And it's almost never the case that these kind of antihero/villains are portrayed as truly sympathetic. At best these characters are treated as "unfortunate", errors in the system. It'll give a product points for being "deeper" than average. But ultimately the characters are treated as monstrous deviants who need to be put down and the status quo maintained. More than sympathy, people are meant to fear these people and want to be protected against them. Look at this "incel" scare, this fear of the audience siding with the character in spite of the film vilifying him.
i think that's the lens a majority of capeshit fans are viewing the snippets through. They expect to see some bad-ass super genius villain who has the capabilities to face off against batman. Instead they're met with a frail and weak man lashing out against the world.

Modern SJW audiences are completely unable to understand subtlety or nuance or complex characters. If the character is the protagonist, you're supposed to root for them and if they do bad things, you're endorsing those things if you like the movie. That's why making a movie where the protagonist does bad things is problematic. Similarly you can't make women or minorities have any flaws, because that means you don't like them and that would be sexism and racism. Why else would you make a character do bad things or fail at something if you didn't dislike them?

I never thought about cutting myself, or killing myself or whatever. Some of these kids are pretty well-off too. I personally like them quite a bit, particularly the stairs scene and the scene with the dwarf. The only issue is that I can see some of the dialogue being a bit painful at times, but I think Joaquin's weird, effeminate performance is selling it. I even saw one person say that the reason he acts so odd is because it's possible his mother actually abused him as a child, and I hope that's true, because that'd explain a bunch.

I got a scholarship for a private highschool because I won a couple writing tournaments in elementary school and my family was really poor, so I was basically forced to remain a nerd considering that my parents would never be able to afford it. The thing is, I was smart enough to keep a low profile and always lend a hand to whoever asked for my help, so I ended up being liked enough by popular kids (who also were the most ruthless) to avoid being a target. Sure, sometimes they made fun of me (as I said, I was as nerdiest as it gets) but it was clearly without malice. They considered me part of the group and invited me to most social events outside school.
But there was this kid, that I will never forget. He wasn't bright enough to be a nerd, no social skills to rely on, ugly as stepping on shit barefooted. I can't begin to explain how miserable they made him. Humilliating him seemed to be like a sport to them, every time he opened his mouth and stutter something it was a brand new oportunity to be "funny" and made his life miserable. Most of the people who did ended up being well adjusted, decent people. At the end of the day highschool is just a phase were everyone tries different ways to behave, finding out who you are and what works for you. I have no idea what became of him, he left the school after two years.
Until today, one of my biggest regrets is that I NEVER stood up for him. I knew what they did was wrong, but I also felt that I could easily be on his shoes and was afraid to jeopardize my position by confronting his abusers. Even though I never said a mean word to him and didn't joined on the fun, I know I share part of the blame because I choose to be a bystander.
I hope he's doing ok and never took the pain he endure on others. I should've been better.
