What's an example of slow burn atmospheric horror done right?
What's an example of slow burn atmospheric horror done right?

Lake Mungo
AM1200
Donnie Darko
Mothman Prophecies
Blair Witch Project
noroi and lake mungo

the wicker man. because things that initially seemed innocuous show themselves to be terrible and you realise that as more and more of the truth becomes apparent.
BEEEEEEEEEES
Alien. Literally nothing happens for the first hour.
the original one dumbo
Midsommar has a guy get raped and none of the feminists care.
Watch any horror movie while stoned and it will seem slow and atmospheric
The first episode of Chernobyl.
Triumph of the Will. Best horror film ever made.
Burnt Offerings.
It's been mentioned a thousand times but Lake Mungo is really fascinating that in a way the entire movie is buildup for one single scene and it works.
i don't know what slow burn atmospheric horror is
perhaps, i could recommend some hard terror films?
'no'
and you?
a horror movie that buids tension instead of having a jumpscare every 5 minutes
doesnt mean its good though but sometimes it works
Do you know the difference between terror and dread?
No lie, that episode was the most terrifying experience i've had in years. Just realizing how close the world could be to total annihilation every day due to a human error is scary.
they're synonyms
Great question, would someone like to answer?
Terror is the visceral feeling of "DANGER - FLEE", your fight or flight response being activated.
Dread is a creeping feeling that something horrible is coming soon.
Wonder how an actual documentary about the catastrophe would go? I've always preferred documentaries to historical fiction
A couple of weeks ago I had a nightmare in which I entered a perfectly normal room for no specific reason and the moment I passed through the door I was overwhelmed by an unbearable sense of dread. I was immediately aware that I was doomed and that by entering the room I had, for some unknown reason, awakened an evil presence somewhere on this planet that was now mercilessly coming for me. I wish I could see a movie with something close to this experience.
If you're into literature, Lovecraft wrote something basically like that with The Haunter of the Dark. Long's The Hounds of Tindalos is another one.
ringu or one of the other ten ring movies
>Wonder how an actual documentary about the catastrophe would go?
I've seen a few and they weren't as effective as actually seeing these morons stumble around with their ineptitude.
And then there's that scene of you actually seeing the fucking core.
Angel heart
Voice from the stone
The others
wow it's been years
i feel old now
Thanks for the recommendations. It's interesting, I've read almost all of Lovecraft's stories but this one has escaped me.
The Witch
A Field in England
Kairo
The Hunger - 1983
It's pretty cheesy by todays standards. Some great performances though.
Very atmospheric
How did they fuck it up so bad?
fuck dude honestly i haven't felt so stressed out watching a scene in years. it's the lack of any sound and her tripping over and fuck off ghost fuck OFFFF
And the dude does nothing but wait in fear as the ghost approaches him.
Nightmare stuff.
Seconding this. It's fucking nightmare fuel.
I keep hearing this is terrible
They didn't shoot 15% of the script.
It's kind of amazing if you go into it knowing how terrible it is. I had a good time with it.
Another one.
The movie feels like a weird fever dream, many scenes seem ripped from Twin Peaks. Lots of very bizarre editing choices where despite almost a quarter of the script not being filmed, you wonder how they fucked it up so bad. Very fun movie.
>nooooo you can't make a snowman noooooooooo
I liked how they shot the parts where they look directly in the core. Like gazing into hell.
Pretty much this.
That episode was more terrifying that the vast majority of horror movies. When the smoke was shown blowing in the wind, and the trees were fucking dying, I was creeped the fuck out.
Audition
ok i gotta watch this now
If you're some fan of the books and were excited for the movie, I can see being extremely disappointed, but if you want something you can just put on and have a good time and some drinks, you're golden.
Another fun bit: Val is clearly struggling with his cancer issues, so every single line of his is dubbed in after with a voice that sounds nothing like him. He probably wasn't saying anything on set to begin with. The lip syncing his horrible, as Val is basically moving his mouth like a fish while a guy with no VA experience speaks for him. It's great.
Just wish I saved more webms when this was still news.

kek oh my god this sounds awesome
A Dark Song
When the firefighters arrived at Chernobyl was terrifying as fuck.
The blackcoat's daughter
the actresses were so different looking i had no idea it was supposed to be two different times
this was almost perfect except
the demons were fucking disappointing when they were actually shown
but on the other hand
the angel was fucking great
very definition of slow burn atmospheric horror
The Borderlands
A Dark Song
>the demons were fucking disappointing when they were actually shown
>he didn't realize they were pagan gods
doesn't make them less lame tbqfh
mulholland drive
Take Shelter
